If we ever lose this fella, it's going to be tragic. Nedum Onouha & Stevie Ireland must make him so proud having seen them come on leaps and bounds and arguebly two of our best players, the latter arguebly the best. Vladmir Weiss in my opinion will follow suit eventually and Ched Evans is slowly but surely starting to make his mark and I believe although we have all this money, we'll still see 'our own' come through the ranks.

I mean we buy Caciedo for £5.2 million (cheers for that SGE!!) and yet we have Robbie Mak scoring stupid amounts in the ressies, yes I know it's a huge step up but why not give him an off the bench for the last 10 - 15 minutes and see if he is ready from the time to time? We missed the boat when SWP was out because Weiss, apparently the new Kinky according to some (ahem), could have slotted in on the right nicely. That's when he should have been given his chance.

Am I the only one to want more of 'our own' to come through? Do you believe it's realistic to expect more to come through despite our expected spending again in the summer transfer window and more transfer windows to come?

It takes time for a big leap from reserves to the main squad and we need to understand that it wont happen overnight.

The thing we dont want is for other clubs to come in stealing our young players because we are buying ones at there prime, i think that players like wiess will get there chance mate they just have to be patient and to be fair thats probebly the best way to go.

The thing I'm worried about is these quality players like Weiss, like Robbie Mak looking elsewhere eventually for first team football. I think if we gave them the odd start from the bench would just encourage them to progress and work harder, give them some more motivation to succeed I suppose and with us being allowed 7 substitutes nowadays I think it's good that Vlad is getting on the bench. Maybe that's the start of it.

To be fair, I think that is something the fans have wanted to keep going. I know its nice to get hopeful about having a team of Kaka's and Messi's, but for the fans, I still think we prefer homegrown talent. I think Hughes and the owner want the youth to come through too, but I don't think now is the time to do it. We did it with Danny Sturridge last year, chucking him in at the deep end, early next season we should see some of the youth players given a chance. If Hughes was to play Weiss now and he had a shocker, Hughes would be blamed for picking him, it is the last thing he needs with people still jumping on the 'Hughes Out' bandwagon.

jim is a top bloke, he`s done wonder`s for the academy, he will be sorely miss when he goe`s, in 40 year`s hopefully

yes i would love to see weiss, but if mh had tried the kid and we`ed lost against villa he would have been roasted on here. also i went to the fa youth cup at com`s on sat all the team have load`s of promise but by far the best player on the pitch, imo was kierran trippier at right back. imo if any of the youth should be thrown in it should be him.

Dont think we are really in a position to "Give players 10 mins" this season unfortunately. Uefa and the League position are critical to Hughes and his staff this year. Hopefully in a season or two when we are into phase 2 of the plan and have a settled side challenging on several fronts we will be able to utilise the Carling cup and to a lesser extent the FA cup to be blooding some of these youngsters. Other than that they are going to simply have to impress so much in the reserves that it is a no brainer to get them into the first team squad. At the end of the day no matter who is at the club on the playing staff, cream should always rise to the top, It has to be in there nature if they want to be the best at the top level.

I met jim cassell at citys awards ceromony last year at the coms . It was before we had all this money . I told him he was more valuable to this club than all the millions to chelsea . I said i bet they wish they could have someone like you at there club , and the work he done was amazing . He was such a nice bloke and he was taken back by what i said and was grateful . Just shows you what type of bloke he is . Had the time to talk to me and many others .

This.
Of course we would all love to have a team full of homegrown talents which is capable of challenging for major honours, but such is the nature of the English football now, this is not possible. I see most of our youngsters becoming decent Premiership players, but with other clubs. Not many will be of the standard required to get us to where we all want to be.
Even though they don't all stay with City, it's nice to see them do well with other clubs (unless it's against of us course).

Read it again ! I said after we are into phase 2 challenging on several fronts and pointed out that the FA cup should be utilised to a lesser extent, i.e. Draw Sutton Coldfield at home in the 3rd round and I would blood a couple of youngsters ? For me Phase 1 will not be complete until we have won a trophy (just to clarify)
