João Félix

Some of our fans are starting to sound as entitled as the United fans we mocked for being arrogant knobs for years. There are plenty of very attractive clubs in world football. For many players, whether we like it or not, we're still not the be all and end all of football. If Felix goes to Atletico he's gone to a great club and it's hard to deny that
And a club with a great tradition for developing forwards. Think of Agüero, Falcao, Diego Costa, Torres and Griezmann.

I'm not seeing much antagonism in this thread, it sounds like you're trying to get on an unnecessary high horse.
Atletico is a good club, not one of the usual suspects. I think people are more surprised to see them splashing this much cash at one

Seen absolutely loads across the forum and online tbh. Not just this thread. Saying certain players are bottlers if they don't want the challenge of City. Some saying De Ligt only cares about money if he chooses PSG etc etc. Not saying its everyone, but its certainly a vocal minority

Very very true.

To be honest if you actually look past the surface level theres a lot of red flags about going to Atletico.

First among them would be the number of attacking signings that have failed to adapt to Simeone and been shunted out the back door a year later. One of Benfica's ex board members actually said this in the press last week, theres been many big names going from Benfica to AM and most of them have failed.

Second would be the fact they're losing half their team this summer - Lucas, Juanfran, Godin, Felipe Luis, Rodri & Griezman is the vast majority of the players who start every game and they're all going.

And of the ones left, Saúl and Koke have both had rows with simeone about his tactical choices.

It's a big risk.
Tbh my response was more towards the entitled “If not City then rubbish” mentality that’s started to creep in the last few windows. On Atleti though, It’s a risk, sure, but any move is. That said, between the funds they'll have coming in and the huge weight being lifted off their wage bill they should have a big summer, and they already have a successful infrastructure in place.

Juanfran, Godin, and Luis were all coming to the end of their runs there and while the squad could suffer a bit in the short term as result they’ve been in need of a renewal for a season or two at this point regardless. And on Saul and Koke, from what I understand their issues with the tactics are that they’d actually like to play a bit of football from deep rather than being glorified water carriers. Wouldn’t think those concerns would apply to Félix, Griezmann’s done alright for himself in that system after all and stretching back pre-Simeone they have a good record of developing strikers, or whatever you want to call the role they have up top.

It’s not a perfect situation, we aren’t either, but the point remains that it’s a fine move and no one should be shocked that there are other attractive clubs out there.

Imo its a great move for the agent. Atletico is surely paying nice agent fee fee now and you can be 100% sure if Joao Felix lives up to the hype he will be on the move within 3 seasons when again immense agent fee has to be paid by Barca, Real or and English club.

Your spot on. I and a few others were raising the same point last week.
Unless we are careful we will morph into the very same thing we called out utd for when they used to criticise why Yaya. SD Silva and even Pep decided to come to us.
