Jo Swinson

She's an "Orange Booker" which means that on economics policies she's a Tory. However, on social policies she is "liberal". So, a sort of Left-wing Tory really, rather like Cameron.

IMHO such a person is not the answer to this country's problems. They will not be prepared to do the stuff that needs doing.

OTOH she is of course pro-EU, so it's not all bad.

Who is? I think we need to jump the next GE then we will get back to normal. I.e Johnson wins the next one, Labour will then decide the Corbyn experiment has failed and will get someone who will hold him to account over the next 5 years and as Brexit is most likely to be a fuck up(to be generous, let's just sat not bought as sold) then Labour will win in 5 years

Who do you see in Labour to take over and hold the Tory party to account?

Honestly i dont see anyone?

Who is? I wait for them to emerge.

Someone who does not believe the market has the answer to everything and knows that the state must intervene to solve some issues.
Someone who has no imperialist delusions and accepts that our days as a Great Power are done.
Someone who does not want to subordinate us to the USA.
Someone who knows this country needs radical reform and modernisation, starting at the top.
Someone who accepts that our realistic future is with Europe.
Someone who puts experts in charge of the stuff they are expert in, not random amateurs who think they know better.
Someone who will vastly improve the education system.

If we end up with no deal I will blame

The tories and johnson
Jo swinson and her careerist student politics level competency.

Like him or hate him any no deal government will have to have the leadr of the opposition in it and her refusal to deal with labours leadership will prop up johnson and lead us to no deal.

But then this twat propped them up for 5 years before so why not again.

.

Many people don't get this. It was the Orange Bookists that made coalition so comfortable. They were economic bedfellows with a socially liberal streak. I would argue the Orange bookers have helped to make the Classical Liberalism stance advocated by halfwits like Paul Watson and that odious Count Dankula become acceptable again. Its rampant free market and small state ideology have allowed extremists to use it as cover for some of their more odious thinking.

You can not trust the Lib Dems, they are as right wing as the Tories but do it with a smiley face, at least with the Tories you know they are horrible cunts and they don't attempt to hide it.

I think shes done a deal to keep the floppy haired **** in and her a cushy cabinet post in the bargain.

Same old tory collaborators.

what we have learned is that none of these fuckers have the country at the heart of their posturing. Johnson purports to consider No Deal. Corbyn says he should lead because he is the Leader of Her Majesties Opposition and Swinson has her stance - she will work with any one -just not Corbyn. We are on the cusp of the point where the shit will hit the fan and nobody - repeat nobody - is saying that post 31/10 is this going to be good for us - so plague on all their houses and I hope they all feel the fucking heat

Spot on mate. Whatever side of the you-know-what debate you are on we have learned just how self serving and power hungry most elected officials in all the major parties are.

It seems to be quite a short sighted move on the part of Swinson. I can see that she doesn’t want to give Corbyn the credibility of being PM in case it works to his advantage at the subsequent general election. But in reality a Labour caretaker government could be fairly disastrous, for Labour.

A Corbyn government wouldn’t actually be able to do anything other than prevent No Deal by organising an extension to A50 (which would go down badly with Labour leavers) and then calling an election. They wouldn’t have the votes to do anything else. They wouldn’t be able to do any of the stuff that leads to an incoming government gaining a honeymoon period. They would look fairly impotent.

All that the caretaker government would do would be to keep things ticking over and deal with any crises, terrorist incidents, floods, extended power cuts, foreign crises etc. Caretaker governments are probably not best equipped for dealing with crises as they’re all new to the jobs. And crisis management doesn’t seem like one of Corbyn’s strong points. Labour probably wouldn’t be blamed for a crisis, but they would get the flack if the response is badly managed.

Yep but it’s August. Parliament isn’t in session, Europe is on its hols and we are two and half months away from no deal. Swinson and Soubry have been total arses over this but let’s see what everyone is saying a month or so down the line. Whether they like it or not Corbyn as leader of the official opposition gets first dibs. They don’t like it then tough.

As someone who has voted for the lib dems in the last few elections, their policy on this is putting me off.

Party it seems, once again, being put before the country.
Politics and politicians in this country should hang their heads in shame.
Pathetic wankers are all putting party before country.
Let’s hope a consensus of more than half of the MPs manage to get their shit together and come up with something before it’s too late.

First dibs to do what?

Fair enough. Let’s hope that he’s prepared to stand aside and support an alternative if he can’t convince enough MPs to support him.

They could do with sticking all of the MPs who oppose No Deal into a room and holding a conclave. Don’t let them out until there’s white smoke indicating who has enough support to form a caretaker government.

It won’t happen but unless they’ve sorted it out before they trigger the no confidence vote, Johnson will simply sit it out for 14 days before setting the election date.

It’s a temporary measure and then they’ll have a general election, I cannot fathom why they can’t just put party politics behind them and get it done.
