We can all try a put a positive spin on this one but it’s a lot of money on another defender who isn’t great at defending. Once Maguire signs for over 80m to is that really money well spent? Anyway, Kyle did need competition so I’m pleased he’ll get that. I would have preferred someone younger, who could learn for a couple of seasons, maybe say Max Aaron’s at Norwich?
Is what it is though, Pep and Txiki usually have a plan so let’s hope this lad works out.

That won't happen, we are not that stupid.
 
When we got Walker we also wanted Alves. Pep wanted an attacking RB and one more defensive. Danilo is neither here or there and was a last minute signing. He's done okay to his credit, but we really haven't been able to attack down the right side properly. We had to rely on KDB providing the cross from the right while our wingers inverted and with KDB injured for most of the season we missed it even more. Walker relies on trying to just provide a simple overlap and isn't really effective. If you look at Zinchenko on the left it's more link up play and overlapping when need be.

There may be a issue defensively, but if we have balance with whoever the right sided CB shifting over to help cover on counters the way Laporte does on the left hopefully we'll okay.

I think Cancelo would give us more options and versatility. He could play as a wingback if we decided to play 3 at the back. Him providing the cross on the right could shift KDB on the left of the CM if Dave is out or play slightly deeper etc. I think Pep is constantly looking at ways to attack the opposition by looking what their weaknesses are.

I really hope we don't. I think we have enough with Laporte, Stones and Otamendi, Fernandinho as fourth choice when needed and promote Garcia to the first team squad. Stones barely started a game in the second half of last season and Otamendi was benched for Kompany during the run-in. We can now bring those two back in to the fold. Just my opinion but I think it'd be a big waste of money and we'd regret it a la Mangala, Bony etc. Anyway back on topic.
