Joao Cancelo

There's not many positions in the starting eleven that we can improve upon, but RB is certainly one of them. Walker was terrible more often than not last season, and if Danilo is leaving, we might as well buy one of the most exciting attacking right backs in the world, instead of just another squad player. Makes complete sense to me, as it looks like Danilo is leaving.

This signing looks like great business. Brings something different to the team, versatile, plays three or 4 positions and once we've sold Danilo it could be only a 25 million net outlay and RB improved considerably plus LB cover. Win win.

If Cancelo signs, I'm sure we're signing him as a starter. Not sure Pep has been convinced with Walker this season, and this proposed signing will keep Kyle right on his toes, is Cancelo better defensively or are they both just decent at attacking?

Worse defensively, but much more effective than Walker in attack.

He’s class as an attacking right back which pep cares more about than the defensive side

He wasnt!

Benny is a crock and can't defend

I cant wait for mendy to be fit for a stretch so people can shit up about him not defending. Its horseshit.

If you play him like a LB he can defend brilliantly as seen in his 2 games vs Salah.

If you tell him to play as practically an extra LW then yes, he will leave space behind.

The only genuine problems Mendy had defensively was nailing down the transition from CM to LB in a few games when Pep wanted him to come inside - which all our fullbacks had problems with at first.

Mendy is in the last chance saloon so a credible backup on both flanks is needed to upgrade over Danilo. Plus, he could develop under Pep well enough to own one of those fullback positions. It's a sound move

I hope this happens. If we play Bernardo on the right, we play Cancelo. If we play Sterling on the right, we play Walker. Simple. We’d have more options. Playing with wing backs would become a great possibility. Back 3 with Mendy and Cancelo would be nice in some games. And against the really defensive buses, we could even play the pair of them in a back 4, allowing Sterling and Bernardo to cause havoc more centrally. Get it done.

I like Danilo, he got better and better, but swapping him for Cancelo just gives us more variety.
