I refused to watch Splash as only 12 year old pre pubescents watched it and I wasn't. What I do know is my great great grandma was a sailor who sailed all 7. She told me that she had seen several mermaids and all of them had a fishes tail.

No as they do have fins in the sea where your gtreat great grandma would have seen them.

And I have never seen splash but am aware of the story.

Also I do believe there was a folk tale in arabian nights where the mermaids were also shapeshifters and used to come on land for a shag

If Joe had been an adult I reckon it would've worked better. The idea was sound but even watching it as a kid, you knew Joe was a bit of a knob. Stingray was always a bit more for laughs
