Joe Cole and the press fascination

I can't be alone in being completed astonished by the sheer volume of press generated by Joe Cole's transfer to Liverpool.
You aren't. It's like they bought Kaka, Messi & Higuain in one player, conveniently forgetting they sold Benayoun (a better player imo).

Of course, when we finally sign Milner, young player of the year, England international and for a sizable fee, the media will spend as little time as they can slating us and the player before moving swiftly on to their next big story.......Hilda the tea lady at the swamp!

The bias is unbelievable and i know it shouldnt bother us, as they say, no such thing as bad publicity but it rankles me something chronic!

Personally I think it is a big story. Joe Cole is a class player and I would've loved him to play for us, as it is he chose Liverpool and since they are in big need of a saviour at the mo it's a pretty big signing. You can already hear the sighes of relief from Gerrard et al. Better than Benayoun in my opinion, just that he is more injury prone so will get less games.

Good signing for Liverpool, not gonna bother us this season though!

I concure with the poster above... It is a good signing for Liverpool, they are in desperate need of a little cheer, and he can be a very good player, I am glad we didn't go in for him thou, I personally think his time has passed and the injuries will take there toll on him, especially when you factor in that he isn't used to playing 40 odd games a season when at his fitness peak.

What I do think has been very comical has been the reaction to this signing, On luxury player signing on a free has made everyone in the media convinced that Liverpool are pretty much nailed on for the title now, whereas we have been buying over expensive nobodies that will just clutter up our squad and prevent the precious academy products coming through

I must agree with the OP with this one, just one point, Liverpool are only in Europe this year through default, it would have been Pompey if they ha'nt had the financial problems.

Seems to be as much to do with Hodgson as anything else. The press seem to love him at the minute, now that they have gone off Capello.

It takes the attention off of us which is good.

I don't get it myself, Cole seems like a nice guy and on his day he's a great player but it's hardly the exciting transfer it's being made out to be.

I do find it funny that Cole is apparently at Liverpool for their 'history' and 'great fans' and not just the money and first team football though. It's good that United and Liverpool players play for their love of early twentieth century football history and aren't just money grabbing mercenaries that no one has ever heard of like Yaya Toure and David Silva.

... seems funny to me that Chelski and The Dippers swop one player each (Benayoun and Joe Mr Wonderful Cole) and both teams are improved ... that literally does not add up ... or even make sense.
