Joe Royle or Kevin Keegan

Royle took us down to the Third Division. When he came, he had a third of the season left to lift us one place. We failed to do that because of his negativity.
He then wasted half a season at that level before we kicked on and scraped out of that division by the skin of our teeth.
He had no interest in trying to win any silverware as such. Another Sam Allardyce for my money.
thats so wide of the mark.its untrue people hail dickov as a legend then royle has to be the managerial equivalent he did as much for us if not more as that little scottish bloke who ran around a lot and celebrated by jumping into the crowd when he scored the winner for leicester against us that could easily have put us down .

Royle- Enigma- very over-rated- Took us down to the 3rd tier, despite taking over a team that was admittedly struggling, but out of the relegation spots, and with the a group of players more than capable of turning this round- refused to play GIo & Rosler, because he coulnt handle the big players- struggled to get us out a a division we should have walked- did well to get us back to the top table at first time of asking, but once again showed a complete inability to handle big named players- ultimatley he took over a mid-table 2nd tier team, and 4 years later left a mid-table 2nd tier team with very little sign of any actual 'progress' during his time- but GOD!! DID I LOVE RIDING THAT ROLLERCOSTER!
Nearly forgot- Royle brought with him Jim Cassell- city's greatest ever signing! (although how much reposibility Joe had in this is questionable!)

Keegan- GENIUS- the true reason we are where we are now! Played the game the way in should be played, as long as we scored one more than the opposition, that was fine in Keegans book- established us as a mid-table Premier League football team, (a FANTASTIC acheivement considering where we had come from) whilst continuing to build on the successess at Accadamy level (ruined by his next few successers!)- left the club in a very healthy state- thank-you SIR KEV!

Difficult decision. Imagine the roles reversed. Could Joe have kept us in the top flight with KK's money. Could KK have bought the players needed to achieve 2 promotions on the cheap. loved the football under KK, but Joe takes it for me, just, for all round managerial nouse.

I think you may be the only person i history from not till the end of all time to call Keegan a Genius in managerial terms
Also I dont call leaving us massively in debt struggling against relegation after numerous high cost terrible signings a healthy state

Not just overpaid signings, but over the hill injury prone signings that would spend more time on the treatment table or just too unfit and unprofessional, with no chance of recouping the money due to their age.
Joe for me everytime, though he did make mistakes especially in his first season when he had enough time to get us out of trouble.

You make some worthwhile observations about Royle, but I can't agree with that final bit at all.

Sir Joe or King Kev?

Gotta be KK as that promotion season was one of the best seasons ever

KK for me as his 'net result' was better. JR ended up where he started when he should have got us out of relegation when he first came.

In reality he is a Sunday league manager who played direct. KK had vision but was clueless in other areas where JR may have been better.

He who signed Alfie Haaland loses !!!!!!!

Both nice guys though and the visiable fondness to City is clear whenever they are on TV.

Kevin keegan 4 me the 2001/2002 WAS 1 of the best manchester city teams i have seen.Ali bernarbia what a magician and the silky skills of berkovic quality
