Joey Barton

Don't you get fined for that in the PL?

Sure teams got into trouble for fielding understrength teams.

But saying all of that, in a game where one team needs the other team to get promoted for their own financial gain and that team needs to win 7-0 to do it and the score ends up 7-0 is going a little bit beyond the pale, don't you think?

Reeks of cheating to me.
They have effectively released their senior pros early as they wont be getting contracts next season, already started building for next year. They played similar teams in a couple of their previous games.
I think the 25 man squad thing has ended that caper in the PL
I can remember Mick McCarthy catching flak when he was Wolves manager for playing the stiffs at the swamp, because they were playing a relegation rival immediately afterwards.
Not sure it helped him either way

Fair enough response but it still stinks as they are now 50k better off for losing by an unpredictable 7-0.

If that is building for next year, heaven help them lol

I guess you just can't take the **** out of Scunthorpe after all :)

Tbf Northampton were 3-0 up after 22mins and 3-1 at half time, they had more than an hour to score another goal against a side that just about scraped survival in the football league. Instead they apparently went to a back five to protect what they had because they thought they had done enough. Also had their keeper sent off when they finally went chasing. So they were as much the authors of their own downfall as anything Scunny did.
Would only be fair if the Cobblers still went up via the play offs, they have been much better than the rest, but as we know it doesn’t often work out that way

Have you been to Bristol?

Everyone’s too busy smoking weed and debating what’s the best Tricky record to bother about such trivial things as football.
My Cousin lived there for a bit, and that’s what he turned into while he was there n’all!

Also, I believe, one year there were more Liverpool shirts sold in Bristol than were sold in Liverpool. Sad state of affairs!

Bristol City too, even moreso.

Bristol is about the size of Liverpool. How they’ve not got a big football club from that city is beyond me.
I agree - it is bizarre that one of England's biggest city's has not had a team in the top flight for over forty years.
Contrast with the small towns in Lancashire and Yorkshire who have played in the Premier League.
There is a lot of interest in football in the South-West of the country - unfortunately most of it is channelled to supporting rags and dippers.
Massive potential for success - I cannot say that I want to see Barton deliver it.

Nope....that would be making it as a top level professional footballer, while being far from naturally gifted and being written off on several occasions. He literally dragged himself to a standard most can only dream of.

We could do with some more of that mentality in our current squad.

He's a follower of Nietzsche, you can see the influence.

I used to live there and have loads of cousins etc there
As others have said, the place is absolutely riddled with plastic redshirts. Especially cult enthusiasts. A lot of Chelsea fans as well.
If they got behind their local sides they might start punching the city’s weight
Tbf the ones who do follow the Robins or the Gas are pretty hardcore

After a bit of digging this morning I found out that Scunthorpe sold Ryan Loft to Bristol Rovers in January and would receive a 50k bonus if Rovers got promoted!
50k doesn’t sound a lot, but to Scunthorpe it’s probably a life saver in the National League.
And still people say footballs not bent.

And another thought would be, Scunthorpe releasing their players early and playing a youth team knowing that they were playing Rovers in the last game of the season and it would look a little less dodgy if they suddenly sprung a youth team on the pitch to let Rovers win easily.

Not too sure we should apportion blame to a team that didn't throw a game tbh, for me, it absolutely stinks.

Watching the game yesterday Scunthorpe had no intention of trying to score passed back to their keeper from the half way line constantly, something definitely dodgy and should be looked into

I can think of another club where the ball regularly ends up with the keeper from possession on the halfway line. - They don't generally conceded seven though.

But I don't think Scunthorpe had any intention of playing out from the back or playing at all to be honest

These are the kind of results that make football so wonderful. It’s not just the joy and trauma of yesterday but the fact that Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town, who otherwise probably have nothing in common, will now have a bitter rivalry that will last for years to come. All rather petty and small-minded, but I suppose that’s football. Anyway, best of luck to Huddersfield in the playoffs…
