Johan Cruyff Dies...

The Messi and Colin Bell of his day. He brought such joy and exuberance to how football should be played. Cheated out of a World Cup medal! A football revolutionary. In footballing terms there's summat special about the talent of April 47 babies! RIP Maestro. The best footballer of his and many other generations.

When l was young l had a huge poster of his on me bedroom wall. As pretty much every Dutch footie those days. So proud to have seen him play live a few times. Remember him on black/white tv making his debut for Ajax at 16 and immediately pointing out to senior players where to run or pass to him. And they obeyed, recognizing his talents. The man was a truly outstanding all round forward. Introducing professional football in the Netherlands and not shirking confrontations to do so. As he hasn't all his life, as he stuck to his vision about football. When it's about football in the biggest way possible he is by far the best ever. It is truly a very sad day for the Netherlands and football. R.I.P.

Nowadays, every two bob player is doing it. But back then, it truly was revolutionary. All the jaws hitting the floor must have registered on the Richter scale when he did that.

Can remember every kid at school trying to do the Cruyff turn the next day....and failing miserably!

After Bell,Lee,Summerbee & Young, he was a footballing God to me. That 74 & 78 Dutch team!!!

I managed to get 'the turn' off to a tee and used it to great effect, as I'm sure many did. That is his legacy.

RIP to a great entertainer

Such a sad loss to football, he was my favourite non City player when I was growing up, maybe my favourite all time player.
Nowadays many players are called geniuses and superstars but they are no where near Johan, a true footballing genius.

Everyone's seen the Cruyff turn but he did amazing things every week. One game he was on the wing and received a long ball out to him, didn't need to control it, his first touch simply flipped it over the defenders head ran at the goal and scored.

Football has lost one of its greatest ever today.
