John Benson RIP

RIP JB.

CityKev- all I can really remember is that when John Bond was sacked he took over for 1/2 a season. The unbiased media said he'd got the job as we couldn't afford to change the initals on the manager's car park space.

He was also a right back who played 2 seasons for us in the early 60's before my time.

Met him once seemed very decent man.
That first season when Bond was in charge was one of the best I've known.

Anyone know what happened to him? Far too early to go at 67. The season he and Bond took over from Allison was just incredible.

Very Sad....

His legacy will be that the Elephant Man will now fail in every job he takes on...

I read that John Benson was the brains behind all the South American talent Bruce has brought in over the past few seasons (Palacios, Roddella (sp) etc)

Not many remember Benno was manager when we were relegated by Luton ,David Pleat Etc.
I was in his office before that game and he got a phone call from Hong Kong from Tommy Hutchinson wishing him well .
sadly it went wrong ,but he was a great bloke and very well thought of at the club.
