John Stapleton passed away

I often think that when someone dies it's often better to hear their own words on their life, career or interests and so today as my tribute to John I've published an interview I did with him back in 2014.

You can read it here:

He talked of his support of City & early TV career. My thoughts are with Nick and the family.

Sad news. A great broadcaster and from all accounts a very decent man. RIP John.
John lived in Saddleworth for a while too. He talked about getting the bus to City from there when I interviewed him years ago:

I lived in Uppermill from around 1963 - 1967. I wonder if John was in Saddleworth at that time. I read your excellent interview. He was the definition of a true blue. Thanks for posting mate.

Fantastic tribute from his son who inherited his love for City and being a fantastic human being, the Istanbul comment is a tear jerker but in a nice way, felt the same re Aguerooo!

rip John

Wonderful sentiment from his son Nick this and can confirm what he says John told him in Istanbul - I was there with my 2 sons and said the exact same words to them having seen City lift the European Cup.

Saw John a fair few times in City away ends over the years - the last time at Palace in 2024 I think. A top Broadcaster, a top Blue and he will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace. My condolences to John's family and friends. Such an eloquent voice with genuine love for sports and City. The media is missing a great man. A mentor for many.

Would be great to have a minute's applause for John at the Burnley game given his long relationship with City (if anyone at the club is lurking on this forum!)

Hope Nick is ok,what a lovely guy just like his dad. So glad they both made it to Istanbul
RIP John.

A top blue seen at many awaydays over the decades, in bad times and good. In latter years he often seemed to be in the company of Mike Pickering
Not only a thoroughly decent man but also a fine journalist and broadcaster, light years ahead of most of what passes for the profession nowadays
