another good display i thought. even with navas as right back.
I'd like to see him play alongside Vinny for at least a few games, I think we would know far more about Stones after it. At the moment, I don't see anything like a top defender, I see glimpses of something, I'm just not sure what.
Apart from his gaff against Monaco at home he's been completely solid since the new year. We're a better team with him in it than not. Playing with a fit Kompany will bring out the best of him tooHe's been playing really well for the last 5-6 games.
Felt a lack of communication has been a big problem at the back for us this season. Though last night you could see Vinny hollering at Stones and instructing him where to be etc, he would have learnt a lot in those 90mins.
This might sound Crazy but I think Stones should be 3rd choice next season. We should snap Pepe up as a stop gap 2yr CB partner alongside Vinny. Stones still has a lot to learn and while the PL might be forgiving the UCL certainly isn't. Pepe and Vinny in the UCL would be brilliant, Stones can get the simple PL games and sit out the decisive top 4 games. He is still young and would come good, but you can't afford to use a season full of promises as a learning curve. We must find the balance.
Stopped reading at Pepe. Not a fucking chance.
FYI reputable tabloids in Spain has it that we are really interested in Pepe. He was supposed to go to China as RM allowed his contract run down. Now its a two way battle between City and PSG for Pepe. We would be stupid if we allow Pepe go to PSG. At 34 he can still give us 2yrs. Stones is NOT READY yet.
Sorry mate we'll have to disagree. Pepe's well past it and I'd rather spend two years with Stones allowing him to make mistakes than two years of Pepe getting worse and worse. On top of that I'd guarantee it would take at least six months for him to get up to speed. If it's as a squad player I could just about understand (I don't want him around anyway because he's a ****) but we'd be mad to go into next season with him as a starter.
Letting him go to PSG would not be crazy whatsoever given that they're not a rival.
He looks a good footballer but does he look a good defender? Last night we watched a guy who has barely kicked a ball for 2 years come back into the side and look a good defender. I've yet to see anything like that from Stones but in fairness hes been playing alongside 3 mongs all season. I'm hoping a few games alongside Vinny will show us what we paid all that money for.
For all his defensive 'qualities' I think Stonesy would not trouble Joleoninho in the scoring stakes. Joleon always seemed to nick a goal at crucial moments. Stones seems to have some of the best chances you'd see all season when he does get in front of goal but 'rabbit in headlights'!
