John Stones

It was an open secret in the England camp that Stones wanted to join Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling at City and he will hope to secure his move in the next three weeks to ensure he does not have to report back to Everton for pre-season training.

Thought I saw him hanging out with Joe and Raheem a lot in the training clips on the news.

For 50m, you would expect a marquee signing. Yet, Stones is pretty far from that. But that's where we are.

Which City?

Coventry? Bristol? Lincoln?

I won't know unless there's "Man" next to it.

I hope it's us, really want Stones to sign.

£50 million for an unproven is very risky. everton wasn't exactly a fortress last season.

He's played 100 games for Everton and in the premier league.

Obviously Mourinho and now Pep saw enough from him in those games to make huge bids for him.

As far as I'm concerned that makes him proven.

You could put Anyone in that Everton team under Martinez and the defence would concede goals.

Not when he doesn't play. They get clean sheets when he doesn't play. Him and Baines

Edit: look I'm all for getting him, but £50mil upfront is too risky. Why not £30mil and see how he fares with clean sheets. Clauses on clean sheets.

what world are you living in where everton would accept clean sheets as a bonus structure?

Is this some new football manager or FIFA development I've missed out on?

If pep thinks he's worth 50, he's worth 50 to us. Why get the best manager around only to tell him he can't have the players he wants?

Darren Fletcher would not be cool with clauses like that.

Uhh, the world of performance based payment? Otamendi has it, Sterling has it. We pay an initial payment fee, then if the player fulfils certain performance stipulation we pay the agreed remainder end of the season or whenever the deal has been agreed. We don't have to explicitly specify clean sheets but there has been 'goals scored' addons for strikers, I can't see why clean sheet addons can't be made for defenders.

And Pep didn't valuate Stones at £50mill, Everton did.

Like I said I'm not against buying Stones, but if a player made an individual costly mistake playing against us when we have been having an underwhelming season, I would hesitate in putting £50million.

This is why I don't get the complaints at all. His ability on the ball, the way he is able to calmly play his way out of trouble instead of just hoofing the ball, his passing ability. Stones with Pep as manager will easily become one of the best ball playing defenders in the world. I guess people would rather have Mangala tripping over his own feet.

I actually think with mangala most likely staying, he will also greatly improve under pep

Mangala would trip over trying to trip over his own feet, 2bf.

I don't watch every Everton match obviously, but from what I've seen Stones is HIGHLY overrated. I understand he's young, and English, and I'm not denying he has great potential. But 50 mil is insane! How many CBs are we going to pay ridiculous amounts of money for?

First of all, he's not even that young anymore. He's been talked about in the transfer rumors for so long. When it started he was 19-year old future captain of England, the next John Terry. Now he's 22 and looking more like the next Cahill (not meant to be an insult, Cahill is an underrated CB in my opinion).

Would MUCH rather we sign Laporte. With that being said, I wouldn't be upset if we signed Stones, he's better than MDM or an injured Vinny. And from the way he played today, looks more promising than Denayar.
