Lets see in the euros if he is "good on the ball". To me, he looks like he has been playing football since he was a young kid and therefore doesn't fall over it too much. Nothing special.
I'm only interested in this aspect because I hear it so much. I'm more concerned about his ability to defend...and on that score I have my doubts too.

Most defenders can't do what he does. They simply don't have the confidence, technique or practice.I suspect he does a lot of things on the ball that other centre backs could do but experience and coaching has taught them not to. Playing more difficult passes and running the ball in to midfield is all well and good until you get it wrong.
That's the one thing about Stones that I like. He has the balls for it. He knows if he makes a mistake it will be costly but he's always trying to find a way to contribute to the attack. Much different than Mangala who just looks to offload the ball anywhere else as soon as he got the ball, as if he's afraid of making any mistake while having the ball.Most defenders can't do what he does. He's so calm even after a mistake, which shows his mindset. Compare him to Mangala at say Watford where one mistake just gave him the compusure of jelly.Agreed, good comparison with Hansen as well.
