John Stones

This is why I don't get the complaints at all. His ability on the ball, the way he is able to calmly play his way out of trouble instead of just hoofing the ball, his passing ability. Stones with Pep as manager will easily become one of the best ball playing defenders in the world. I guess people would rather have Mangala tripping over his own feet.

I'm not undermining his ability. I'm just not sure we should go all £50mill for a defender who lost Aguero on a header, who passed short that led to a penalty, who was ball watching twice to let Kone score a brace, whose pocket was picked by Defoe, whose team lost a clean sheet as soon as he was subbed in, etc. Technically he is a talented footballer, he turns and does accurate passes, but at £50million we should expect someone who is not prone to individual mistakes, especially ones that lead to conceding goals. If rumour is right that he has handed in a transfer request last year, then the ball is in our court to get the price much lower than £50mill. I know it's not our money, but if we had the power of hindsight when buying Mangala for £40million we wouldn't have want it. I hope we try and get an initial payment + performance addon deal. That way we are paying for potential.

I don't watch every Everton match obviously, but from what I've seen Stones is HIGHLY overrated. I understand he's young, and English, and I'm not denying he has great potential. But 50 mil is insane! How many CBs are we going to pay ridiculous amounts of money for?

First of all, he's not even that young anymore. He's been talked about in the transfer rumors for so long. When it started he was 19-year old future captain of England, the next John Terry. Now he's 22 and looking more like the next Cahill (not meant to be an insult, Cahill is an underrated CB in my opinion).

Would MUCH rather we sign Laporte. With that being said, I wouldn't be upset if we signed Stones, he's better than MDM or an injured Vinny. And from the way he played today, looks more promising than Denayar.
Oh ffs. Why even mention Laporte?

So John Stones will be more expensive than Renato Sanches !

Yet he could be worth every penny just like camel gob did for them !

Stones has great talent and i have a feeling if we do get him we will be so much better now and for the coming future and will be worth every penny we pay for him imho.

Why does the price even fucking matter? It's not your money and we can easily afford him plus other players, the club has never been in better shape financially. I have a feeling the only ones worried about the price are ones worried the media or their rag mates will take the piss if he doesn't turn out to be world class.

He has the ability to be a fucking great defender, we have the best manager in the game to help him reach his potential and we have the money.

For what it's worth, I agree, not my money. I would be willing to guess though most fear being a laughing stock after buying a £50m defender that turns out isn't that good. I like Stones and trust our club.

I agree. Having someone that can coach/teach him can make ALL the difference in the world. Stones has the raw talent. Would both Maureen and Pep want him if he didn't?

For those worried there rag mates will try and take the piss just remind them of these signings. Should shut them up rather quickly.

Juan Sebastian Veron £28m in 2001. 82 app. 11 goals

Anderson £26m in 2007. 179 app. 9 goals

Don't forget Zaha and Bebe if they want to talk about signings.

JSV & Anderson for that amount of money that long ago? They have no room to critique what Stones would cost.

How the hell are other clubs supposed to compete with us? Dropping another 50 mill is insane. Surely the owners cant keep this business model up for much longer. Besides why go for Stones when we have Denayer.

Intent with Denayer is for fullback I think... and if QPR and west ham can drop 35 MIL then city can easily do 50. City has been hugely profitable now I am pretty sure?
