Otamendi is no mug. He was magnificent vs Real Madrid in both legs. Mangala I will give you but someone will buy him for 20 million.

Otamendi can be immense at times but they have been few and far between for us.He was quality for Valencia on a consistent basis,so we will see if it is a case of settling in to a more fast paced league.

Kroos would be a game changer for us,so I do find it bizarre if the rumours are true about the wages being an issue. As you say we seem quite happy to overpay by tens of millions for players though.

Wages aren't an issue....perhaps upsetting the other players is by paying him so much....just a thought!

I thought Otamendi did ok last season.

If this goes through I'd imagine Mangala will go. Kompany and his fitness is clearly an issue for us and I don't think anyone has a clue what will happen with Denayer.

Looking at it that way we could certainly use another centre back.

Couldn't give a fuck about the sums, it needs to happen.

Fantastic player and will only get better pep will make him world class will be blue legend

Otamendi wasn't good enough last season. He spent more time on his arse than on his feet.

I think he's got more natural football ability than Mangala, but for what we paid, as an experienced pro, he was very ordinary. About the only time he looked anything like half decent was next to Kompany, and I reckon Kompany'd make most of us look like footballers if we played alongside him.

I'm sure he's one Guardiola is looking closely at to see whether he was badly managed or just doesn't have it for this league. I reckon it's the latter, but I hope he proves me wrong.

I imagine there's many of our players on the same ship as Otamendi... and the next few weeks will be the acid test of that.

As mentioned before, I think Stones will prove to be a good signing because he's English and has the raw attributes to suit the way we want to play, even if he ends up lacking the tools be a centre half and ends up in midfield.

The style we are going to be playing suits Otamendi. He's a front foot defender who wants to move forward and pressure the ball. If he can manage the ball playing aspects he will be just fine. He was in trouble for us because we had such massive gaps in the midfield with haphazard pressing in front of him. Without a doubt we will concede some comical goals and sometimes it will be because Otamendi didn't win a challenge when he stepped forward, but at least he will be playing g in a more cohesive and compact setup.

At this point, I don't see City flying Stones out to China. Better to get the deal done by whenever they are back in Manchester for training.

He's suited to the Spanish league, absolutely. Spending time on your ass seems to be the norm out their.

However it can be coached out, and personally I think, or I certainly see, that there is a quality footballer in their somewhere.

His biggest weakness is going to ground. If he can work that out of his game I think he will look like a much better defender

He has a chance, but it's also the physicality that he lacked (a key component of our league). I vividly remember the Mandzukic goal away at Juve as being indicative of this other failing, and that wasn't even against PL opposition. There were lots of examples of him being bullied in PL matches, but that one stands out because of the poignancy.

Ironically it's the physical side of the game Mangala does well. If you combined the two we'd have a very decent centre half. But when paired together under our last manager it wasn't good for maintaining your life expectancy.

Hopefully Stones bridges the gap and gives us all a few more years on the rollercoster.

I was at that game. I was raging. He was actually playing for a foul, again looking to go to ground. Not the place or moment to be using the slightest contact as a means to fall over. He continued to do it that night and the ref actually bought them all after they scored.

He got away with it on the continent, but he won't on these shores.

Like I said earlier though, I think that can be coached/worked out of his game. He could learn a thing or two from Zabaleta

Regarding Otamendi, he's absolutely perfect for a Pep team, with the high line it can sometimes leave your defenders exposed in a 1v1 situation, something Otamendi is brilliant at.

I'm convinced he'll be brilliant this season, he's got all the attributes to be so. I just hope we get Stones signed too.
