I think a deal where it's something like £25m + £20m in bonuses is more than fair enough for someone who could go either way on the potential spectrum. Anything over £40m is taking the piss for someone whose had such a poor season.

Agreed with this!

I stand by the comment about his complete lack positional awareness, and desire to see us give Denayer a chance, but I was premature, he went on to have a good game.

That said, I'm sticking to my guns. The lad is overrated and isn't worth the gamble at the kind of money Everton would demand for him.

You're better off joining me on this side of the fence now, rather than performing a U-turn and doing it later once he joins P
This must be why he's just bought a house in Hale or thereabouts.
Lol

I think it will take a Sterling type offer to get this done......If we dont get this done in the next 10days (which i dont think will happen) and he has a good euro's....I expect it will take a £45mil offer to get him signed....which is why its worth our business done early or we risk adding a few mil extra to every targets asking price...

Neverton wlll be thinking the opposite, though, pretty much.

A mate of mine was watching his young son playing in a match a couple of weeks ago as was an ex City player from the 99 squad, who was watching his own lad. They got chatting on the touch line and the ex player mentioned that Stones to City had been agreed a while back.

Seems to be Txiki's way......get all the persoanl terms sorted and then start bidding....anyone expect our first bid to be low, then increase and give them a few weeks to think about it before offering a final- take it or leave it bid.....? ;)

Getting the same vibe I got when we bought Sinclair, Rodwell and bony.

Think we may be getting rinsed for another Lemon here but that's just my opinion. The fee bothers me a lot, And the fee matters if he doesn't cut it !
If he was say £25m then I wouldn't be arsed but I expect a ready made, world class defender for the prices being quoted

Why does the fee bother you?

Because i feel like we waste so much money on players we end up not playing and letting go for peanuts. It matters because it frustrates me when these players don't live up to expectation. When that happens it makes me wonder if one of our kids couldn't have done just as well. Watching bony play has been sheer agony and what return will we get on him ?
I'm not saying stones won't be alright but over £40m just seems like he should be an utterly amazing defender already.

The club are going to do it anyway I guess so I'm just saying what I think. I will get behind him when he comes but I wish could look at past dealings and maybe try and be more savvy.

Fair enough personally don't bother me as long as they contribute to the team in anyway.

100% agree. What does it matter what we pay for a player. We fans like buying cheap so we can gloat in the pub but the reality is it isnt our money so whatever our billionaire owner wants to pay for a player I am happy with. If we pay £40m and he signs for 5 years it costs the club £8m a year to me that is a good deal especially if he improves the squad and that is ALL that matters

Whether he does or not time will tell but with better coaching and more flexibility in our tactics I expect one or 2 players to excel this season

All transfers are a gamble some for good Vardy some for bad Di Maria who can say what Stones will be but I trust our new Manager to get the best from each and every player in the squad

The premier league is going to be incredibly competitive; all of its clubs will have the financial ability to buy anyone in world football, bar those who play for Real, Barcelona, PSG or Bayern. I could not care less how much we pay for players as long as the financial stability of the club remains uncompromised. I think it is clear that, from a business perspective, the board know exactly what they are doing so financially there should be no issues whatsoever.

John Stones is a very talented player and is only being viewed as less than that because of his performances in a shambolic Everton side in the second half of the season. All observers know that the squad of players at Everton's disposal should easily have qualified them for far more success than was delivered. John Stones has, for some time now, been viewed as a significant talent and I trust that he has been scouted for a long time; long enough for us to understand what we may be buying.
