John Stones

I am a fan of his. I think overall he's been great for the club and I understand the intricacies of football contracts that makes his job harder than some realise.
What I don't like is Everton being allowed to strong arm us in this deal. If they wanted Bony as a Lukaku replacement, who they bizarrely rate as a £75m striker, then they should be willing to pay a fair price.

There is a whiff of double standards isn't there about Everton's behaviour if reports are to be believed.

On the one hand they believe Stones to be a £50m player but pay him a salary significantly less than other players of his value.
They value Lukaku at >£70m and Bony at £15m. There is something not quite right there.

They are in a strong position and are utilising that position well in my opinion. The danger of course for them is that they are left with an unhappy player should we walk away.

I'm not sure anyone thinks anything is guaranteed. But with Pep as manager it's as likely as it could possibly ever be baring in mind his track record with players like Stones.

Personally don't think it's at all OTT to suggest that under Pep Stones will develop into one of the greatest defenders of his generation. But then I rate the lad very highly.

The only answer is that there are no guarantees, but there are probabilities.

As I say, lets hope Pep realises the potential of everyone and we develop an awesome team

It's ridiculously over the top, to say it 'will' happen, but it is possible to assume Pep will improve him & he 'could' become one of the better defenders.

But he could have a thing for making mistakes, like many other young defenders over the ages.

It's a gamble which we hope pays off.

They've not really strengthened at all so are leaving themselves open to having shit start to the season. Seems a bit daft to me when they could be doing a decent rebuild.

Yeah that's pretty much where I am on the matter.
I understand the need to release players and Bony certainly falls into that category, but Everton are playing a dangerous game with their valuations at this point.

If you look at the fact that Stones is a target and his salary will be added to the squad whether we sell Bony or not...then removing Bony's wage bill releases a 100k a week commitment?

We dont need to buy a replacement for Bony as we have players already on the squad to play that position.

Stones 120k a week + Bony 100k a week = 220k week

Stones 120k a week - Bony 100k a week = 120k week

save 100k a week!;)

Obviously I was alluding to your post about reducing the wage bill in the deal that included the selling of Bony. (and I think you knew that)

No trolling here mate. Have you seen anything from the club?
Come on man, I think it's pretty obvious that Bony won't be part of Pep's plans, we are hardly likely to have Pep come out and say anything are we?

So, funnily enough, in this thread, we are discussing an option that could be feasible, especially based on Bony being seen driving in Liverpool yesterday.

Nothing overly wrong with that is there?

Hi mate.....if its the difference between getting Stones or not, then I dont worry about whether it looks like "Everton strong arm us" We get our number 1 target of the summer and a CB I believe Pep will turn into one of the best in europe, while selling a 3rd/4th string striker and his high wages. Everyone can argue about player values but they only worth what people willing to pay and so far it seems, all we've been offered for Bony is loan deals....

Was a genuine reply mate...it seemed like you were asking how I come to the fact we'd reduce our wage bill....sorry if misread..

Well that's where we differ I suppose. I'm not in the camp that thinks Stones will be the greatest ever defender to grace the game.

Personally I think we should be paying them 15m to take bony, has anyone actually seen him sprint? A striker that can't sprint, has the first touch of an elephant & looks like he doesn't give a toss because he's earning a wedge. It's a great deal imo

Nothing wrong with speculating at all. And that's all it is in my eyes.

When posters state that we might be getting rid of a player we no longer want, its a fair question to ask how he knows this as Bony has been playing games in pre season.

Bottom line is your probably right in that Bony might not be part of Pep's plans, but we dont know for sure

I agree mate!;)...I think alot of the disagreement over a potential deal like this, is less to do with Bony and more to do with how each of us value Stones and his potential impact to the squad....as you say I think Stones could become a "world class" CB under Pep, whether others question his abilities......cheers!

bony is actually a really good striker . one day he will become another drogba . so i value him about 30 mil . now , we can offer him + 20 mil to everton to get stone .

I'm sorry but I can't suspend my disbelief long enough to believe they'd take Bony off our hands. I could believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny before I signed off on that.

I'm thinking this report is utter nonsense based on the fact Koeman wont want to sign a footballer who has very limited technical ability. For the same reason,i reckon Pep will be looking for the first opportunity to get rid.

I still think this deal has been agreed at about 45m but we are waiting on Everton announcing their replacement.
