Johnnie Walker one last time

Listened to it today and it's an end of an era. He is probably the last of the 60s DJs who pioneered the pirate radio stations. As churchlawtonblue says he was a master of his craft.

You could tell he was struggling with his breathing and I hope he can have some time before the inevitable. It was a great show and you could tell how much it meant.

Cheers Johnnie and thanks.

Jeremy Vine spoke to JW back in the summer on carers and about the support he needs.
He explained that due to the shortness of breath he would record his program and the editors worked their magic and removed the gaps and create a sentence which makes him sound normal.
You felt it must be a massive effort to do it on a weekly basis.
The thing that stuck with me was when he said he would never leave his home again due to the severity of his illness. Vine was taken back and you could tell he was shocked, must be a difficult life for JW going forward but what a wonderful life he's had to date.

For anyone interested he finished with Rock & Roll on Friday night, and Amazing Grace today.
Wish him very well for the time he has.

Tony Blackburn?

What I liked best about JW is that he always treated the audience with a calm respect , assuming we all shared a curiosity and passion for the music . No gimmicks , no drama : the perfect example of a well informed curator in the museum of our lives . He was part of my teenage and never changed . So cruel to hear him struggle for breath . His voice is his instrument . Wish him peace .
