Which decade was it where everyone just started boarding or panelling anything and everything? I took some panels down in my old house and found a lovely door underneath, same on the stairs the spindles were hidden away by some ply.

If my dad was anything to go by, the 70's............Pine, Cedar wood and those shiney 8x4 panels that covered everything in those days

Beautiful although a good few levels of skill above what I’m capable of!

Hard to tell from those pics but it looks like the handrail is not the type that will accept spindles.
Can you put the paneling back?

I’m pretty sure it isn’t so it will need a new handrail too.

And no, let’s just say the panelling took some forceful persuading to come out.

Happy to say a fellow Blue has kindly offered to come and take a look.

Many moons ago I 'rescued' several iron fireplaces from a house after looking behind paneling. Beautiful and worth a few quid
