What we need is 4 excellent centre backs with 2 being top notch, we have 1 top notch centre back who could quite easily miss large parts of the season. If people think relying on kompany, hoping stones improves and otamendi gets more consistent is great then fair enough. Adding an average defender to the mix is not a solution.

We should have been trying our utmost to find a replacement for kompany not a third rate back up to him. Unless we get lucky the centre back situation will turn into the mess that was our fullback fiasco.
I don't disagree with that although I suspect Evans will turn out to be a better than you think i.e. second rate not third rate.

My anger about this is nothing to do with him being a rag. The point is, he clearly isn't good enough to justify spending that money on him and alienating the entire academy. We can keep Mangala (who is a better player than him) and use Tosin as backup. If he wasn't good enough for united, why would he be good enough for City? He''s playing for West Brom for goodness sake.

Txiki has got to leave the club in my opinion. Complete disregard for us fans when it comes to transfers. First signing Walker (who has criticised the club in the past) and then trying to sign a through and through united player when there are hundreds of better centre backs around.

"Nothing to do with being a rag" in first line then Txiki must go for trying to sign an out and out rag in the last part. Do you argue with yourself much?

Anything in life is possible but when you look at the simple facts that he wasn't good enough for the rags, has ended up at wba and in the last decade no big club apart from Arsenals brief attempt no top club has ever tried to sign him. I don't even remember any poster on here even mentioning his name so it seems a bit silly some are now of the opinion this is good.

Happy clapping big blue at its finest.

He wasnt good enough for Van Gaal

Every single one of those players is better than Johnny Evans.

You will never ever be able to convince me Mangala is a better defender than Evans.
Having the raw pace and athleticism to make you potentially a beast is great; but he is an utterly abysmal footballer.
Backs to the wall I will take Evans over that disaster every time without fail

That second part is about Txiki, not Johnny Evans.

I don't want City to sign him because he isn't good enough. I don't like Txiki because he doesn't give a shit about City fans.

Pep thought chygryskiy would be a great signing. He does make mistakes.

This kind of crap is plain boring: every fucking manager and DoF gets it wrong in the transfer market: players quite often don't work out for all sorts of reasons. And club's like our rarely buy players based on one person's opinion. Pep and Txiki don't just sit in a room and pull players' names out of the air.

IF we can get him for £25m and is not on silly wages, then fair enough it could work out in our favour (even with Evans' United connections).

I think peoples opinions of evans as a player are clouded by the fact that he is/was a rag. We always look at them as worse than they actually are.

He wasn't good enough for a crap rag team a few years ago so do you honestly think he's improved by playing for the mackems and baggies and is good enough for us?

In all seriousness and being honest and removing the fact that he's a rag I honestly don't think he's anywhere near the standard we require.

We have signed plenty of second rate home grown fill ins over the past few years, everyone has been a failure and they have mainly been impossible to move on. It's seems daft to keep repeating your mistakes.

At what stage does stones become the player we were led to believe he would become ? Excuses are wearing thin. If pep is the coach he's made out to be then surely stones has got to step up to the plate and become the main man. Evans will in no way shape or form improve us ,in fact he will just add to the problem. City have become a graveyard for Centre backs, they cant all have been shite.

I would be disappointed if the club listened to fans on social media regarding transfers, rather than one of the most successful coaches of all time.

You need to demonstrate more faith in the posters on BM Ric.

Well he will be laughing here Evans,if it happens, doubling his wages, captain of the club he is at,to sitting on our bench for double the dough...........fuck sake,it really is beginning to baffle me this one

I suppose it shows how far we have come that we consider £25m a stop-gap squad addition?

I don't have a problem with him as a personality, but his limitations are totally exposed when he is asked to get touch-tight.

He's still looking for Mario's give and go return.

In saying that, he is better than Tosin and Mangala.

opening up a shit storm there TH !

I think he did his homework given the constraints of our budget but I don't agree that CH should have been so low down on our priorities. Without Vincent we are in trouble and I don't believe bringing Evans in will win us the league should the worst happen. Do you?

Actually, I think it's entirely possible if we defend from the front in the way we have through pre-season and at Brighton. If Ederson produces a decent saves to shots ratio, we will have every chance.

Why didn't we go for Maguire or Keane, both proven in the premier league, both young and homegrown?

I kind of agree but if we aren't going to go out and do what we should do (buy a very decent CB because we are too reliant on Kompany) then I think it is at least important that we get someone who can organise a bit in Kompany's absence. I agree that we have second rate alternatives at the club already and there are plenty of second rate players who aren't dyed in the wool rags who would cause less consternation amongst the support knocking about. But Evans is experienced, is West Brom captain and should be able to keep Stones and/or Otamendi in line when Kompany isn't there because god knows neither of them can do it of their own accord. I think that is the reason he has been chosen rather than just going for any other average chump.
