Came as a shock. But you can't argue with the logic. We aren't going to buy a central defender who will come in ahead of Kompany or Stones. But we need an experienced player who can cover if one of our defenders gets injured. I think it would be a very good move. I've been keen on a central defender all along and it allows us to bid for Mbappe, or Sanchez if that's what Guardiola wants

Indeed.

April fools day is a little early that's all I've got to say. It's a bizarre transfer rumour which just doesn't fit into Peps theory of a play making centre back. Hoof ball is not what we're about.........NEXT!!!!!!!

The latest being an £18m bid.

Can't imagine we'll want to go higher than £20m for him but the interest in him appears to be solid.

What is clear is that we are so desperate for this centre back signing to be home grown, that we must be seriously pursuing 2 foreign players given the squad quotas.

Yep. Also shows that financially the priority lies elsewhere and not at CB - and rightly so IMO!

Nothing spectacular but reliable CB/LB.
Biggest worry is,just like Bravo, most fans will be on his back from day 1..Will replace Kolarov as the new boo boy.

Don't know why anyone cares about his United background. No one was arsed about it with Cooke, Schmeichel, Cole, Tevez etc once they pulled on a blue shirt.

Never liked Cooke, Schmeichel seemed to relish proving a point against them but has since reverted to being a red nose (pun intended) Cole the same, Tevez as they actually wanted him and out of all the other recent signings he was the only one that wasn't a sort of cast off, besides Evans has always sneered down his nose at us and as a rag he is entitled to do so but don't want him in our shirt mainly due to him being not very good and 29yo, would rather we gave some of our youth that opportunity to come in and play an odd game here or there, this is how teams used to find a youth that was capable of earning a spot in the firsts, not after 201 loan deals and at the age of 25 being deemed ready to finally sit on the bench :/

He's a good player but we've seen before how defensive sides can flatter the abilities of their CBs, plus he's a massive rag with his wife even sodding working for their tv station.

Think I'd be okay with it but only if it's done to allow some truly insane signing like mbappe

Clearly haven't watched much of Evans mate. West Brom might be hoof ball but Evans tries to play the right way, Pep I am sure has done more than enough homework on him before any bid would be going in.

I know someone close to this and it is going to happen.....it's all down to WBA agreeing to it he has an agreement with Pulis if a top 4 club come in for him as long as it suits WBA he can go

Doesn't make much sense to me that. He has an agreement that he can go if a top 4 club comes in but only if it suits WBA? If WBA can block it, then he doesn't really have an agreement that he can go and it's just like any other transfer in that the player can go if the selling club get the price they want.

I hope you are right with regards 4-3-3 as its my favoured line up and one I have been vocal about on this forum in the Girona thread.

Torrent has spoken openly about this in the past and how a Pep side scores more frequently in the second half when teams tire and space is not filled allowing the team to exploit.

No doubt Pep would love an early goal but the way we play with regards possession later goals as players tire is a natural byproduct of the system.

I also think we will play 4-3-3 more often than not but bear in mind, Pep has said in the past that all his teams end up playing 3-4-3. The back three though is very often two CB's split by a DM.

Interesting, cheers fella
I was told by someone very close to JE last week I would be texting them this week I didn't know what he was talking about and laughed it off....I just text him about this transfer and his text back was....I told you you would be texting me this week

Arsenal wanted him last year but Pulis wouldn't let him leave then but he did agree if a top 4 club came in for him again as long as it suited WBA he would let him go...it will take a bid upwards of £20miil though

oh_hell_no.gif

£18m? Is the "m" a typo? Journos getting revenge on Bluemoon for a laugh? He's nowhere near as good as Stones or Ota... would he get in Argentina's squad? Nooope! England's? Squad at a stretch but there would be several in front of him ensuring he is never used.

We can't always sign £60m or £70m players.
Agreed. Personally I'd MUCH rather we spent a load on a decent CB and got an average player in as back up for the attack. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it is this way round though and if we are going to compromise on the CB then I suppose someone like Evans might fit the bill. Probably a safer bet than Inigo Martinez.

FWIW, I have a feeling this will happen. Sounds like our interest is genuine and I reckon Evans would relish coming to City at this point in his career,

Bound to have jinxed it.

It's not that he used to play for United it's that he plays for WBA now and isn't very good.

Saying he will hardly play isn't the best argument for signing him. Thank god they rejected our offers. This has Delph written all over it.

Nah, I'd spend the big bucks on a striker if there's a budget constraint.

Yeah it definitely makes sense from a financial and squad quota/pursuing other players angle.

Might also be an indicator that we're close with our other targets which is the reason why we've put a bid in for Evans, as i'd imagine we would have saved one of those foreign spots for Mangala or another centre back (cost permitting) if that wasn't the case.
