City's hopes of signing Evans from West Bromwich Albion hinged on the club offloading Eliaquim Mangala and West Brom finding a replacement. But the France defender rejected moves to West Brom and Crystal Palace leaving City unable to make a third offer for Evans because they first needed Mangala off the wage bill.

I think it's a shame the deal couldn't be worked out. For me there is no comparison between a guy who has played 5 good games in the PL over 2 years and a player who has been a proven defender in the PL for almost a decade, including for title winning teams.

As a back up he is far superior Evans. As a starter...not as much.
