We're watching him closely according to the Mirror.

Fantastic young player and now Spain's first choice left-back. He'd join in the event of Kolarov possibly leaving and going somewhere like Juventus, and would probably suit the league better than Kolarov has.

Manchester City are tracking Valencia’s newly-capped Spanish international defender Jordi Alba.

The 22-year-old, who has established himself as one of the hottest properties in La Liga, after being released by Barcelona because he was deemed too small, has been monitored by City scouts this season.

Roberto Mancini has been told that cash will be made available for recruits when the transfer widow reopens in January.

And the City boss sees left-back as potentially a problem position.

Gael Clichy has been outstanding since his £7million arrival from Arsenal in the summer, but Aleksandar Kolarov has struggled to cope with the pace of the Premier League when he has stepped in.

That wouldn’t be a problem for Alba, who has lightning speed and is the kind of attack-minded full-back that Mancini favours.

Manchester United have also been linked with Alba, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the market for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.

But United lost out to City when Valencia decided to cash in on David Silva in the summer of 2010.

And if Valencia can be tempted to sell the latest young talent to emerge at the Mestalla then the Blues’ financial power will give them the edge over their Mancunian rivals.

Alba was released by his hometown club Barca in 2005 — and it is a decision that the European champions have come to regret.

He was snapped up by Cornella, a Catalan club playing in the Spanish fourth division before moving back into La Liga with Valencia two years later.

Alba can also operate as a left-sided midfielder, but made his Spain debut in defence in the 3-1 win over Scotland last month.

As much as i do actually quite like Kolarov, plus the contrast he gives with Clichy (i.e. different type of full-back for different type of game), Alba would be an upgrade.

Plus he could double as a winger as well, giving us another option up the pitch.

It would depends on the relative prices though i think and i'd be a little sad to see Kolarov go.

if true then it probably means aleks is on his way out, shame as ive come to like him although i think he still has somthing to give on the pitch. Alba is a quality young player, bags of pace and can play winger aswel as leftback, certainly could do a job and maybe push clichy for first choice lb. If the moneys right, then get it done bobby!

Can anyone tell me if the young lad we got from Feyernord, Rekik, is a left back?

Kolorov doesn't have enough pace for me so Alba sounds ideal but i've heard good things about Rekik so not sure if we need him.

What? Rekik has come on a few times for us. He is a center back. Are you thinking of Razak Nuhu over in Norway?

too small for Barce? kinell he must be a dw..... i mean a mid...... jockey . i doubt there is many internationals we aren't "watching",goes with the profile as "the richest club in the world" (agent-speak for we want a big rise)

I see this as being an option we are looking into if we have had a decent bid in for AK, no way we will sign a 3rd LB unless AK is leaving and Clichy is defintiely staying.

The only other thing is maybe he is being considered for the LW position that AK sometimes plays in and as a 3rd choice LB?

Why wouldn't Clichy be staying?

I'm for this move. Way too many rumours out of Italy for AK.

Karim is a centre back, he is my mate! He's a quality defender, though ..

The agent of Valencia fullback Jordi Alba has confirmed the interest of Manchester City.

Alba is also wanted by former club Barcelona.

“I stress that he is also followed by Manchester City and Barcelona," commented agent Vicente Fores to Calciomercato.it.

will go to Barca imo, Abidal's getting on a bit and needs another operation from what I recall so yeah, we can't compete with Barca in the market.
Alba will go to Barca
