I think most have been bad fits style wise and Pogba was simply overpriced and it's gone to his head.

David Pizarro wasn't bad and I'm still gobsmacked we didn't sign him permanently.
Could be the case. There is also an argument to be made that the more recent Premier League tactics (across the league) is just not a good fit for players that thrive in Serie A.

I was thinking of David Pizarro, as well—he grew in to the side toward the end of his loan spell. I remember that game against Porto where he was especially good and scored his only goal (iirc) for us. I can’t remember who we were playing against, but he also had another game toward the end where he was spraying 30-50 yard passes around the pitch for fun.

I am not sure he had the sort of success I am referring to, though.

Who was the last to actually become a dominant force in a successful side? Vieira?

None really, very hard to get Italian sides to sell their better players though and always has been.

I would say Vieira may be the best (and last) example of that, but that was before the “modern” era really took hold... or, as I like to call it: the Post-Wenger Period.

Hopefully Jorginho breaks that trend!

So we could end up with Mahrez and Jorgino for less than £110 million, and then we have player sales.

Maybe a net spend of around £50-60 million?

Waste of money when you think Grealish is available for just 70m.
