Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has declared that Jose Enrique will not enter into contract talks until their Premier League future is confirmed.

The 25-year-old has been in superb form for Newcastle this season, and is now regarded as one of the best left-backs in the league.

His current contract is due to expire in 18 months, but he will not be entering talks over a new deal whilst Newcastle's Premier League is not secured.

"Jose's situation is simple," said Pardew.

"He's made it clear that he won't talk to us until we're safe.

"What are we now, 32 points? Well we're not safe are we? So that makes the situation clear, and to be honest, it makes a lot of sense for both him and us."

Pardew is full of praise for the former Villarreal ace, saying: "He is an outstanding player and we know that.

"He is an important player for this team because a lot of our play goes through him.

"He is involved in a lot of the good stuff that we do."

I think he is the best left back in the league after Evra, and I hope we go for him this summer.

We were linked with him before he signed for Newcastle.Obviously a new regime in place now and we have just spent 16m on a lad who is still finding his feet, however,Enrique does look impressive and an attractive option, especially as his contract is running down.

Does he have enough pace to be the answer?

He is quality and rumour is that the rags are closely monitoring him. He was nothing much at all when Newcastle went down but this season looks the business.

Ignoring Cole because?

Has done well this season but for me isnt great defensively and wouldnt be any improvement over Kolorov or Zab.

Rather have clichy or gibbs or baines

I just don't get the fascination with Clichy. He's fairly solid defensively but he is a terrible crosser of the ball. He is worse than he was 3 years ago. I know a few Arsenal fans who simply don't rate him. If Keiron Gibbs wasn't made of glass he would have replaced the Frenchman by now.

Gibbs is slowing making the left back position his own, been talk of Clichy moving on in the summer.

Agree that he isnt anything special - but looked a star when Ashley Cole left.

yes please, although i`d like to give kolarov time

I hope we don't go for him personally... My Geordie wife would divorce me.

That said, I watch every other game at St James (don't give me any grief, like I said, the wife is a Geordie) and THIS LAD IS A FANTASTIC LEFT BACK both going forward and in defense. Especially good when you take into account the Guttierez is his assistannce down that left side and isn't capable of any defensive work.

Personally would love him at City but it would be a pain in the arse getting back on the dating scene - I'm mid 30s now and not the catch I once was!!!
