I admit i haven't seen him play much... Is he any good for us and for that price?
 
All I can say is yes please. He was in the category that I assumed were unattainable but is certainly one of the few I'd rather get than Koulibaly. Don't think Atletico would sell so late in the window unless they were desperate for money though. They've lost Juanfran, Godin and Filipe Luis over the last few years already.

Manchester City has presented a formal offer to Atlético de Madrid to acquire the services of José María Giménez. If we do not get a top class defender this year, we have almost no chance of winning the PL or the UCL. For a player who puts us back in contention to win those trophies I would gladly see us shell out £90m or more. It's not like we'd be the first!

He's technically sound, good passer, good against high press, wins a lot of aerial duals, and is relatively quick. The only issue is he's never been a regular or starter for Atletico despite being at the club for a fair while. Even last season it was Felipe and Savic sharing most of the work load. Is he reliable for 38 games is the question, aside his profile and ability, he is however, injury prone. Personally don't think we should pay that much for him, not saying he's bad, he definitely fits the criteria we have set, but not quite the leader to this backline we need. Could obviously change, all that. Could be sensational.
 
No more about his team mate Savic.

One potential problem with Atletico Madrid defenders is they are a very defensive side. I get the impression that it would be easy to defend in that side.

Good age. Strong league. We must know the player well. KK was the best around but his age was against him.

I just want City to go overkill on the central defenders and at least be able to put out a competent defence. That's all we need to be competitive at the top level for years to come.
 
One of the only defenders I've seen who's still young but knows the dark arts of defending, he would be an amazing signing. The briefing about them possibly accepting the offer is positive as well.

That's okay but can he actually last the season without getting injured? If we're talking ability then Stones has it all as well, just made of glass init? What's the point if we spend big money on this and he is just in and out of the team when needed most.
