Every time we're linked with a defender, as soon as someone on here sees a clip of them making a slide tackle they become "another Otamendi". It's ridiculous.
 
If what has been said on here about his injury record is correct, we should be nowhere near him. The one thing the victims keep getting right compared to us recently is that their big money signings never seem to be injured. If you sign a player who already has a bad injury record it is just negligent.

Agree - a well-timed sliding tackle is actually an important part of any defender's toolbox. The difficult thing is knowing when and where to do them (or not do them...). Vinnie used to do a few - and occasionally mis-timed it ending up with a red!

I'll have you know Vinnie was perfect and didn't make a single mistake in his 360 games...

But when you have spunked as much as we have on CB’s this next signing has to be someone who is guaranteed to be a success.
 
Please no more Atletico defensive players. Obviously he is a very good player but for that amount of money it is risky to sign someone who only plays in a tight defensive unit where the responsibilities of a defender are completely different.

There is no way to be sure how he'd adapt to a completely different style where the most crucual part of the defending is done during a counter against speedy players.
 
I was all for him until people started talking about his injury record. Not too sure now

No signing can be guaranteed to be a sucess, too many factors which can affect the outcome .

Obviously good scouting should result in the signing having all the right credentials to be capable of meeting the requirements , but there can be no guaratee that things will work out exactly as planned.
