Joselu comments...

If a premier side were facing a Portuguese side in an important game, I'd expect people to ask Mangala for his take on it.

I see it a bit differently.

Real Madrid are a better team than us both in terms of individual players and as a collective. To go through over the two legs we needed Joe to be immense (which he was) and to have a bit of luck. Key to it was to get to the 80 minute mark in the second leg still in the tie which we did. At that point we'd both hit the woodwork and they led through a deflected goal. They were clearly the better team and we hadn't had the luck but we were still in it. We needed one chance and we needed to take it. Sergio finally got a chance, a half chance for most players but for a player of his calibre a chance. It went a few inches over. If it had gone a little bit lower we'd have gone through and everybody would have said we'd done a job on Madrid. Fine margins but if we'd gone toe to toe with them from the off we would have probably been buried by that stage. Simeone and Mourihno have played it that way their entire careers with more than a little success.

So you were happy with the performance? Just a fine margin between success and failure? I get what your saying, but I think you are so far off the mark. There was so much wrong with us on Weds, something that's been symptomatic of our entire season. The scoreline was irrelevant to me, it was how we have performed week in week out all season and no amount of fine margin, bad luck etc can cover that up.

Agree with everything you have said Wilf.

We've been total garbage this season. This team passed it's peak after 2014. Time has caught up with a lot of our players and legs have gone most notably with Yaya ,our former go to big game player,a shadow of his former self. In that context yes I was happy with our performance. We should never have got ourselves in this position but we have.

It's worth remembering that even at our peak when we've gone toe to toe with the real big boys we've only ever beaten Bayern (3 times) in what were effectively dead rubbers for them. I've slagged Pellegrini off for lack of pragmatism many times in the past. On Wednesday we were professional and played to our limitations.

Here's the story doing the round regarding Joselu and Stoke. Thoughts?

My team-mates were saying in the WhatsApp group that Manchester City played like a group of friends kicking the ball about at the school playground. Manchester City had no attitude in the game. They almost made it to the finals despite wandering on the pitch.

Manchester City played with no attitude whatsoever and didn’t deserve to be in the Champions League semi-finals.

In the Premier League, Manchester City have had, shall we say a s****y season.

Toure was wandering on the pitch [on Wednesday night]. He should have run last night rather than against us in the league.

My team-mates are complaining a lot in the team’s WhatsApp group because weeks ago, Yaya Toure out-powered us in the league.

He ran so much he even got injured playing against us, as opposed to last night’s performance.
He's spot on.

We played like a team given no direction or instructions.

He's making more sense than the barmpots who thought that we were unlucky in any way shape or form or mention fine margins.
We froze on the biggest stage and from the coaches to the manager to the players on the pitch we were pitiful. Fuck all 'unlucky' about it.

Well explained, I understand what you mean and agree. That was the sum of what we've become. For all the reasons that's been discussed to death we've become a shadow of our former selves, maybe that's what hurts so much. Wednesday was shit, but like you say, maybe we shouldn't of expected anything more.

we were dreadful

the truth hurts, we have been a disgrace and embarrassment in our last two games, anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.
The Madrid game did City a lot of damage.
Can you imagine the CEO of a major company who is considering investing millions of pounds into football sponsorship, watching that shambles in Madrid thinking wow I am going to invest in City...NO.

I can imagine the phone lines between Abu Dhabi and Manchester have taken a battering, and some very senior personnel on the City payroll have had their ego's seriously damaged.
