Juanma Lillo | Leaving the club before the CWC (p52)

So all those that don't have the faintest idea of the relationsship between Lilo,Pep the players ,the coaching staff. Have now idea what his input is or isn't in training, no idea on how he challenges Pep . They all think he should be changed, not based on the success we've had with him but on half a season when the issues with the squad are obvious to everybody. Brilliant.

Not unless Pep forgot to say "don't make mistakes" which I'm fairly sure he didn't.

People always want big, structural answers after every loss. It's not that deep. We'd won 5 in 6 before yesterday.
You wouldn’t think so reading comments by some on here. They think we should wipe the floor with every team - even the top 2. Can’t stomach real life

I'm sure if he stood up and gestured they'd be happy. That would show he cared. To just sit there and talk to Pep calmly and in a composed manner, the way he did when we were so successful...well it's unacceptable!

Makes me chuckle how much panic there is amongst some people on here. We've got a lot of injuries, we're in need of some new players and we're missing the best player in the world. Suck it up, support the team. We'll be back.

If I were Pep (oh! only in my dreams.. be still my beating heart!) I'd be thinking about adding to the specialist coaching staff rather than replacing advisors, especially given how individual events and errors have occurred during the past few weeks.

Step forward out of retirement John 'Budgie' Burridge, goalkeeping and tactics legend, once of this parish!

In the 80s when interviewed while playing for Wolves, he was asked about formations adopted by different teams and how Wolves dealt with these. He said 'We use the 'W' plan.. if the ball comes in our area, we 'Welly' it upfield as far as we can..!'

Sage advice, Budgie, sage advice..

I sometimes think our lads have forgotten how to use the 'Put it in Row Z' tactic when the occasion arises, so maybe bringing Budgie in as a consultant might help us avoid such lamentable errors as those we witnessed yesterday against The Tarquins..?!

This is what happens when popular Head Coaches endure a bad run. Very few will want them sacked but assume that someone has to pay the price whether it be an umpopular player, Assistant Coach or board member/s.
Sam Ellis was public enemy number one when Peter Reid started to struggle.

Everyone has to take responsibility non more than Pep, I don't think Juanman appears to contribute much to the naked eye but, Pep must have him as his number 2 for a reason.
For me the issue is over coaching and too many coaches, I would look really hard at the defensive and set piece coaches before anything else.

I think he contributes more than we think and he definitely has more control over Pep than we probably appreciate, the evidence of this is the shift in tactics since Juanma has been his assistant. Prior to him joining, we played a fairly fluid 4-3-3, but since he joined, this has shifted to more of a 4-2-3-1 with it being more narrow and full backs being used to create the width.

Our success has been impacted by this too, yes we've won the league, but prior to him joining, we watched some of the best attacking football ever seen in this country, winning the league with 100pts & winning domestic quadruple. Then in the season he left to manage Al Sadd, we went on to win the treble.

I'm not saying he's solely to blame but the football has been pretty piss poor this season, last season was more or less the same until Liverpool & Arsenal both bottled it.

Dont talk facts on here mate, people think hes paid loads of money to do nothing and are happy about it. cant ever suggest anything negative.

I want a new, fresh, young number two next to Pep. fresh ideas, challenge ideas of Pep etc. new set piece coach too.

rebuild is needed maybe in the staff too not just the playing squad.

I do recall we looked at Xabi Alonso as number two before he took the Sociedad job. we need someone like him young upcoming talented coach.

we have previous for this look at Arteta, Maresca etc.

for me Gundo would be ideal

People going "fuck me, tealady next?" or similiar on a discussion about literally the 2nd most important member of the staff need to cut it out.

We are literally talking about the position that enabled Ferguson to survive 30 odd years over at the swamp and Ancelotti to still be relevant in the elite tier of football today. Pep has been here 8 years, and we already know he is the best of the best. If the performance of our team and the effect of our tactics keeps spiraling the way it is currently of course people will ask questions about the input his assistant is giving him.

A change is needed in the dressing room and I'd much rather change the assistant x amount of times or add some new faces to the coaching staff to push Pep and the players rather than talk of sacking the best manager in the world because he might actually have lost the dressing-room
