Jules Koundé

You can't use Liar Maguire as a measure against which foreign centre-backs should be valued nowadays.
He had the 'English' premium attached and was still grossly overpriced . . . and that was before the effects of covid on TV, sponsorship and gate receipts hit the finances of all football clubs and put most clubs into a very precarious position.

Kounde and Koulibaly are twice as good as Maguire, so the minimum premium we will have to pay is 60m. If we want one of these players, we will just have to pay up, that is the reality.

We signed Stones for 50m back in 2016 and look how that one turned out. At least with Kounde and Koulibaly you are buying either one player who is guarenteed to be a star or another player who already is a star. Stones was always a big, big gamble.

I’d rather spend 50m if spending 80 means you get a shit one like Maguire

I would rather just spend 60m plus if it meant getting a quality CB like Koulibaly and Kounde.

I don't want us to stick to our strict pricing of under 60m mark and end up with nobody at the end of the transfer window. We did the same last season and come unstuck in the Premier League and the Champions League.

App our valuations are miles away from what Sevilla want . £50 -£55 ain’t gonna cut this with this guy or anyone else we go for .we either pay the money or we end up with nothing .
Surely Tixiki must realise by now, if you want a top centre back you've got to pay the fucking money

It doesn't help that Otamendi has not been able to get a move.

We have 2 foreign spots available in the squad. Silva and Sane have left, Ake is homegrown and Torres is under 21 so he isn't counted within the numbers.

We could always bring one CB in and then sell Otamendi at a later date. We will only get about 5m max for him anyway.

Maybe the strict pricing policy is important to the clubs business model and our manager accepts it?
Fans obviously want the best of the best but it can’t always happen.

If that is the case, kiss goodbye to the Premier League and Champions League, just like last season.

That’s clearly bollocks though. Our squad is more than capable of winning the league this season.

As for the CL - we could have a team of galacticos from 1-11 and still get knocked out in the QF.

City, Txiki, Berrada... whoever is negotiating a deal for a CB need to be told that you ain't going to sign a CB of Koulibaly and Kounde's calibre for below 60m. It just isn't realistic when you consider that Utd paid 80m for Maguire.

We are just going to keep hitting a brick wall if we continue to think we can sign a defender around 50m mark.
To be fair your not far off there, you can only haggle hoping to get it knocked down a bit,but expecting teams to except £50/55 mill for quality players is few and far between, other teams have set the bar regards in this case CB’s as in van dyke and maguire ..
