Julian Weigl

Well Liverpool came pretty close to it with Jordan Henderson and James Miller as theirs? We already have the talent and contingent parts to go all of the way in the CL. The problem with cup competitions is that there's some luck involved and everyone had to be on form on a given day.

Milner and henderson are perfectly suited to liverpool style of play. fernandinho at his current age delph and gundogan arent ideal for the way we want to play.

I see where you're coming from but someone at Romeu's level is exactly what we don't need in my opinion. It wouldn't fully break the bank, but us trying to get another premier league side's first choice players will still come at a premium and I don't see that he'd be an improvement on Delph. All the premier league teams are rich already and it isnt really worth their while to part with first team players unless serious money is thrown at them. Delph hasn't let us down and already knows Pep's system.

Like I say, if there's a genuinely top notch suitor out there then I'm all for getting him but I don't think there's many of them about this summer. Weigl has a few question marks over him, but I can understand if Tuchel thinks he can make it work.

Fernandinho used a bit more sparingly, Delph used in games where we need a bit more tenacity and Gundogan in games where he have all of the ball and need a conductor to play us out from deep positions between those three we've got it covered for another year if we need to. If we're going to spend big then it'll be on someone who can do all three of those jobs. Maybe they're hanging on a year so they can see how Gomes progresses too? Sounds like he's impressed already.

Kudos on the last paragraph Blue, talked a lot of sense here! BTW what are you on BM being so sensible :-)

We did just finish 25 points ahead of liverpool a couple of months ago with that pool of players in DM/CM. They can't have been that bad/ill suited to the way we play.
In fact I'd say it was the strange decision to deploy Gundogan on the right wing that inflicted the main damage in the first leg against liverpool.

It's definitely the position we ought to look to spending big in next but I still feel like i'd rather hang on and get the right man. I'm not totally comfortable with Fernandinho having turned 33 with no clear successor in place, but he did have possibly his best season for us last year and it's not like his form will suddenly drop off a cliff just because three months have passed. I don't want us to panic spend on the wrong man right now when there might be better options next summer. I think we have enough to choose from in a horses for courses kind of way for the time being. Also, just to clarify, this conversation started way back when someone said we seemed terrified of signing a DM. I only originally responded to say that I didn't think that was case. I just think don't think the likes of Fabinho or Fred as being quite what we want or need right now. It's very very difficult to improve a squad as good as ours, and certain signings that might have been ok a couple of years ago probably won't offer much improvement now.

According to Paris United Weigl has agreed terms with PSG but PSG are keen on getting Kante. Obviously Tuchel likes Weigl..

Despite the progress of the dossier #Weigl, Henrique and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi are still hoping to enlist #Kanté. An appointment was scheduled this week but was cancelled by the player still very reluctant to the idea of joining the capital. More information to come in the week.

and Weigl says yes to PSG ( I think ) links to their article.

Rumours are that Witsel is due a medical at Dortmund in the next few days, so Weigl could be on his way...

PSG is gambling on Weigl to find his 15/16 form basically. But there aren't exactly lot of passing DMs in the market so, probably they have to gamble.

So is that it? Are all the potential pivot players signed up now? Do we have to wait and see if someone emerges during the coming season?

I have a kinda crazy idea but could KDB be used in a pivot role in the future? Perhaps he plays deeper and Foden or Diaz play in his role

How the f*ck are PSG still signing players for big money?

They don’t give a fuck - maybe they have worked out that uefa are are useless bunch of windbags who won’t ever get around to dealing with them. PSG will be fine.

I was kind of hoping that we might snag this guy on a cut-price deal as he hasn't been too good for a couple of seasons now. And that Pep would bring him back to what he was. Hope PSG don't do it now. If they do, it will be a coup for them.

Still think that Pep will find some sort of solution "in-house" so to speak though.

Hmm...does this mean anything?

Like 2 seconds ago he was tweeting about not having a clue about who City were going for, doubt he found out in that time, and if he did there'd be a story up.
