Manchester City 'not looking at appointing Jurgen Klopp' as new boss
Last Updated: 15/04/15 4:14pm

Manchester City are not looking at Jurgen Klopp to become their next manager, according to Sky sources.

And at this stage City have no plans to replace Manuel Pellegrini, who has come under increasing pressure at the Etihad after a poor run of form.

It’s our understanding however that City will be looking to refresh their squad this summer, with plenty of comings and goings expected at the Etihad in the next window.

City have dropped to fourth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea, and the champions look certain to be relinquishing their grip on the title.

They have lost six of their last eight matches in the league, and now face a battle to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Speaking after Sunday’s 4-2 derby defeat to rivals Manchester United, Pellegrini told Sky Sports: "My future is not the most important thing about what happened today.

"I'll continue working. We have to play six more games to try to finish as high as we can and, for me, that's the only thing that's important.”

When Dortmund called a press conference on Wednesday morning, it was widely anticipated that Klopp’s departure would be announced.

Sky Bet quickly reported a surge of money on the German being appointed as City’s new manager.

This means we've no idea so we rang the club and some bloke on the end of the phone said he didn't know of any plans.

over on sadcafe they are openly hoping that Klopp will go to them , so the LVG love in since sunday didnt last long ! oh and over on RAWK suprise suprise the Dortmund thread has been locked because some dippers wanted Klopp instead of Saint Brenda .

This is like having a shit at your new bird's Mam and Dad's house, realising there's no bog roll and then her Mam quietly pushing a few sheets of tissue under the door to save your blushes.

How often do managers of this calibre suddenly just drop out of the fucking sky at a time when you're really really struggling?

If we aren't all over this guy the whole Management Team need sacking.

Beautiful analogy.

Could see him trying to bring hummels, Gundogan and reus with him and knowing the german league hopefully rodriguez and de bryne.

Hart

Fucking hell, that team is immense! We'd win everything (apart from a dour 0-0 at Stoke).

I presume if we are all over this guy, it's because the whole management team need sacking.

City will never appoint a manager just because he becomes available nor will they be bounced into an appointment or make policy on the hoof. They will have plans in place to appoint a new manager if they feel that Peller's time is up and they'll have a list of candidates they are prepared to appoint then. If Klopp is on that list he's in with a chance: if not he'll never manage City.

As a manager Klopp's record is mighty impressive, and there can be no argument about that. I do think, though, that managers who build a club on talent from the academy have to have an awful lot of good luck to find that such talented players are there at the right time, and often can build one such team but never a second!

And this is why City continue to make mistakes in recruitment. Some players, coaches and managers become available unexpectedly and City are too conservative to go for it. Klopp is perfect for City, he has everything going for him and is more charismatic than Mourinho, he is a German Brian Clough, a genius who can bring new ideas to City and take on the European giants on an equal footing with us. Saying that I expect him to go to Madrid and us get Ancelotti. but then we will again get the next best option rather than the real deal.

I agree with the poster who says we would be better spending cash and having Klopp at the helm than spending it with Pellegrini and then Pellegrini leaving in a year anyway. I know everyone keeps looking at Klopp's record this season and the fact he hasn't managed out side Germany but we have to take a chance on this guy if he is willing to join us.

Off to Munich to take over from the sacked Guardiola.

Hummels @ £ 30m
Rodriguez @ £ 20m
Gundogan @ £ 16m
Pogba @ £ 65m
De bruyne @ £ 36m
Reus @ £ 25m

£192m gross

Jovetic @ £ 18m
Edin @ £ 18m
kolarov @ £ 10m
Yaya @ £ 12m
Nasri @ £ 20m
Sinclair @ £ 3m
Nastasic @ £ 8m
navas @ £ 10m

£90m in so around £92m nett on that? Obviously the sterling fee needs to be in there but with wages saved from micah, lampard, Yaya, nasri, milner etc then it should be good to go and with players like mangala, fernando, sterling Fernandinho, bony etc around as well then happy days!

Clarkie would be proud mate.

A slight variation on rivhard30's team:

Manager: Klopp
Formation: 4231

-------------------Hart----------------
Zabba--Komp----Mang--Sandro
--------Pogba----Gundogan-------
DeBruyne--Silva-------Sterling
-----------------Aguero--------------

-------------------Willy--------------------
Sagna--Denayer--Demich---Clichy
------Fernando---Fernandinho-----
Navas-Pozo/Celina/Iheanacho-Lopes
------------------Bony-----------------------

HGs:
Clichy
Hart
Sterling
Lopes
Denayer
-Pozo/Celina/Iheanacho (or will be)

Youth: Check. Lopes and Denayer will get ample chance

Pace: Check.

Directness: Check

Costs:
Here assuming inflated buys and undervalued sales so worst case. All IMO of course

Sandro 50m€
Gundogan 20m€
Pogba 100m€ (out bid all, can be 75 upfront and 25 add ons but realistic valuation closer to 70-85m€)
De Bruyne 50m€
Sterling 50m£ (35-40 upfront, 10-15 addons. Realistic price 35-40m£)

Sales:
Kolarov 10m€
Nastasic 10m€ (from my understanding we haven't used this)
Dzeko 20m€ (should be between 25-30)
Nasri 20m€ (should be between 25-35)
Jovetic. 20m€ (should be 25)
Yaya 10m€ (realistically should be 15)
Boyata 2m£
Lampard, Milner free should free up decent wage space only a fraction of which is used by Lopes and Denayer. Rest to transfers

Sales: ~ 65m£
Purchases: ~ 205m£
Net: 140m£

PB estimated in the ffp thread that we could conceivably spend 250m£ gross and 160-170m£ net.

Optimistically those purchases should be closer to 170m£ IMO and sales closer to 80m£

Edit: should.have posted in the future signings thread
