1. Ade back
2. Villa slipping up
3. Liverpool faltering (all season!!)
4. Spurs, FA cup = more games
5. Villa and Spurs at home to come
6. We know whats needed from tonight with regards to our midfield.

This is strange, but that game might give us the wake -up call we needed to go on & claim 4th spot.

4-2-4 just leaves the midfield too exposed asking too much of Barry and De Jong. (I know we started with Ireland).

So, come on boys, still game on.

For me Vieira might the key in the run-in.

At last a positive post, looking at many of the posts after tonight's game you'd think we were in West Hams position, rather than still pushing for fourth.

Well at least we don't have to listen to any crap about that 'game in hand' any more .....

i never thought we'd win it , when so many did ..... and we didn't!

Anything we get from here on will have to be fully earnt .....

hang onto your hats ...... it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

Here's my take on our rivals for 4th.

1. Spurs - Tough games Vs Utd, Chelsea & Arse. Can see them getting 4 points at most. Fa Cup SF (vs Pompey) probably means another game in the final. Still have to visit us.

2. Villa - After a long season, (CC Final, FA Cup SF) showing signs of fatigue. Also dropping points at home to teams in the bottom half. Stamford Bridge on Saturday and still have to visit us.

3. Liverpool - People say they have an easy run-in, but that's based on a fully firing Liverpool. Not seen too much of that this season. Still involved in Europa League. Playing Thursday & Sunday is far from ideal.

Being objective as I can, I wouldn't swap our position with anyones. It's up to us to grasp the opportunity.

spot on punter, come on all you blues, we're gonna do it.

ur right lets be positive were 5th , remember where we were 10 years ago

I'm not in the slightest upset by last night because the referee had such a hand in the result. We haven't been played off the park, if anything we have shown that we are a much better team than Everton, and that is without playing anywhere near our best. Fair play to Everton who got a result they probably didn't deserve in terms of quality of team or play, but they worked hard and made the most of what the referee gave them (and their second goal was a break of very high quality - we'd have been proud of that). There was a lot we didn't do right last night, but we weren't awful - a long way from it. (Our set pieces though were very poor.)

Where does it leave us? Well, this time yesterday we needed probably another 18 points to get 4th. We still do. 6 wins out of 8 remaining games, or 5 wins and 3 draws.

After last night, I think we will come out firing against Wigan. I expect us to turn Burnley over and I expect us to beat Birmingham. I expect us to beat West Ham on the last day of the season. That means we need 6 points from 4 games, against the rags, villa and spuds at home and arse away.

Not easy, but definitely do-able.

He will.

If we keep him out of the side we might just have a chance.

Frankly a slow pairing of de Jong and Barry, an ageing Vieira and a shot Ireland are the weak point of our team.

Quite what Mancini can do about this at the moment I don´t know.

Keep Vieira out the side and play a midfield 3 of De Jong, Barry and Ireland.

Pretty much as we started with last night.

We were unlucky not to be in front and had played some great stuff before they scored. Our midfield was winning the battle.

I know Ireland played one great pass into Tevez. However as the ball came into Cahill for the goal he could have got a head on it had he left the ground.

Barry in addition gives away far to many free kicks due to his lack of speed.

De Jong as everyone admits is good. But not necessarily in a midfield such as ours.

Waiting for tin hat. I'd give Ibrahim a go. He has energy and speed from what I have seen so far.

We played some great stuff... on the half way line... we had little penetration dave... Tevez on his own does not work against battling teams, because we can't get the ball to him in places where he can do damage... We need Ade back... he is another goal threat and something for our opponents to worry about!

I agree in the main. Tevez is more dangerous coming from deep where he can be more incisive. He can go off the last defender's shoulder sometimes as main striker, but I agree about Adebayor. Especially if we can play it quickly on the deck and stop Given wellying it up there.

Tbh....1st defeat at home this season....i'd have taken that at the start of the season anyday. One thing I wish we would do though ........and thats stay put until the final whistle goes!!.......and get behind them Blue boys FFS we are about to finish higher than we ever have in the last 30 years or so.

C'mon you Blues!!

We criticise the players but walk away when the games still on. What's that about?

We have a problem in midfield if Ireland is out for any length of time. Not sure if Vieira is the answer myself. I'd play Tevez deeper and put Santa Cruz and Adebayor up front with Johnson floating wing to wing. I'd drop Bellamy for now.

Let's get into the rest of the season, and hammer the opposition. We can win every game, but let's play each as a Cup Final
