Juventus (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I agree and tbh we played Chelsea at the right time. The clappers never saw it or didn't want to see it coming.

My concern is Pep, he has no history of this kind of challenge. He seems to be as inept as the players during this period.
I think there’s a slim chance he turns it round any time soon. He’s a genius and I’ve got no managerial experience at all, but how much worst would Jacob Wright and Mcatee be doing? 60 minutes gone tonight and I would have said come on lads, give us life. We’ve got nothing left.

You can't be concerned about Pep. He knows the issues but he also knows the season is long, the players have delivered so much up to now, and that there's no need to panic.

He has consistently talked about being better with the ball because when we lose it we cannot cope. Yet again their goals came from giving it away and leaving us exposed. We aren't patient in our build up, and when we lose it we don't have the shape.

He either needs to change things to give us better shape and accept we will lose the ball, or try and change players so we stop losing it. The trouble is we aren't stacked for options at the moment. It's now, more than ever, Pep wants us to pass teams to death. But that's not what is happening on the pitch.

the problem is ake stones akanji kova and rodders are out so we are struggling to cope with counters.also we arnt taking our chances when they come, yes things are bad but i think when (if) we get most of them back we will see a big improvement.titles gone i suspect but dont throw the towel in just yet
We are fucked then aren't we because Rodri isn't back for 6 months and Stones and Ake can barely manage 3 games on the bounce without being out for 6 weeks

Nunes has to play in midfield from now on. Not great but he offers more than Lewis & Gundy. Lewis, Gundy & Bernie can not continue in midfield unless we are playing the local care home
Fuck Nunes- he’s shown he’s not good enough and doesn’t have the bottle. Play Mcatee FFS !

It’s an insult to Mcatees career to tell him to stay and then refuse to give him any minutes in this appalling side.

what he did do was indirectly call out the problem - he mentioned a lack of two defensive midfielders, and 3 missing centre backs......he knows Lewid and Gundo dont work - he knows he wants his 4 centre halvess back at the back (dropping walker for either Stones or akanji)

Unfortunately none of this can happen......

Rodri done for the season
Kova - nearly mtach fit but a short term solution

Akanji - hopefully fit soon to play at right back dropping walker

Ake back to left back and stones/Gvardiol n the centre.

Peps comments shows to me that he knows this team has not future with some of the players that are playing now....

The issue is has he realised that some of the players he wants back are also a problem due to their consistent injuries (noteably Stones and Ake)

This is why Ive said the problem is bigger than this season

we need a gundo and KDB replacement as well
Where does Dias fit in?

Yeah but then walker brain farts and decides not to go to it. A player with his pace gets to that easily. Invited the cross in. There’s nothing upstairs with him.

Our captain ffs.
Walker had no chance to get to that, not that he would have tried to if he could.

A couple of thoughts
1. Our first team has been allowed to age..no real succession planning..Great youngsters binned off (e.g.Palmer)..I remember the same problem with an all-conquoring French rugby side some years ago.
2. Linked to this..injuries seem to have hit City over the last couple of years way more than any other top 6 side...what's going on?...are the conditioning team not up to it? Is it just the aging players' bodies or both ?
3 why the fook does Pep not seem able to coach a defence?
1) Yep
2) The issue with injuries is the amount of games they have played both club and country with too little recovery time
3) The defence is in the treatment table
4) Succession planning has ben poor

I thought he was ok. Laid one on a plate for Erl. He’s the least of our problems at the moment
I think you will find he is the elephant in the room that people dont wantto confront......

Yes there are big problems defensively and in DM BUT KDB is massively on the wain....he has zero running power anymore and is spending most of his time joggng around and hanging deeper trying to find space which is acceptable if he has other parts ot his game...he used to. he doesnt know

OK aint good engouh

Gundogan is right - we're doing 90% of what we need to do and getting caught out.

Haaland should score first half and the first goal contains another error.

There was no need to play quicker etc, we created sufficient openings to score. It's just a fraction or so off. Juventus played it tight and took their opening - Haaland and Doku need to get an understanding as it has cost us again.

But as ever, how we attack is how we defend. The second goal is a poor give away and then panicked running that leaves a gap for Danilo to pass into, from there we're in trouble.

The only difference I would make is calming the press down. I'm convinced the high press era of football is coming to an end, with teams & systems better suited against it. A majority of the PL teams are now more of a threat when they have less possession.

Pep is unsackble for this season and we should at least see what happens at end of the Summer transfer window with the new signings and if he can get us firing again. The FA Cup is our only realistic trophy we can win this season.
Nobody is un sackable in football, we are an enormous footballing colossus that is regressing at an alarmingly fast rate
