Juventus (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

Excellent performance and some encouraging signs. Early days but the new players and coaching staff seem to have brought new energy and intensity which is much needed. Reijnders, Doku, Savinho and Ait Nouri all impressed, but seeing Rodri back controlling the midfield was lovely to see.

Well we can all see the effects on the team with rodders back, I can’t believe the difference with haaland.
Gone from that lazy can’t be arsed attitude to that hungry front footed striker we all love. The new lads have definitely lifted a team that was drained and lacking that winning mentality in that heat aswell.
I can’t fault anyone infact Nunez impressed
Me the most in that right back role but they were all brilliant.
Great to see sav finally hit the net and what a player we have in ait nouri.
Cherki and rienders look really good.
Exciting times.
Definitely exciting times.

I'm probably in a minority, then, but I don't think Erling was much different to how he has been. He's always a trier, imho.

I know he has this hang-dog expression, which I think can give the wrong impression.

Having said that, I do wish that he'd come back into an onside position more quickly, but otherwise I've never doubted his commitment.

Hopefully he'll amble to another 30-40 goals this season.

Bit of a mind blowing observation here with us now having Klopps assistant from the dippers 2018 / 2019 golden 3 upfront era …….. Salah Firmino and Mane
Could we have the same tactic in the locker now with ………. Haaland Marmoush and Cherki plus Doku ???
Our options now are almost limitless ! ;)

It was effectively game over, yes, but 5-2 and they never even considered making an effort to close the gap, make it more respectable. Keeping their positions, maintaining their defensive structure. Damage limitation till the very end. Talking about fear...

76% possession, 11 on + 4 off + 9 blocked = 24 attempts. Not to mention, both of their goals could and should have been prevented (the action leading to the second has to be anticipated). Against Juventus. Not bad...

Lots to talk about, but I've been working all day, I'm fucking tired -and hungry. Well done Pep, congratulations to all the boys (those who did not play included), get some well deserved rest...

Fucking love this team.

PS. Rayan should not worry about anything. Everything will be fine. He is home and all of us are fucking 100% behind him. But: He needs to know that he will be targeted. He plays for City, people will get out to hurt him, I'm afraid they will be encouraged to do so. And he can expect zero protection from refs. The boy has to be prepaired...

Certainly not surprised about Ait Nouri. I’ve always rated him and thought he was perfect for us. So glad we’ve got him.
When I was watching him at Wolves he always stood out for them, Obviously then you think is he able to make that step to play at a higher level and play for a bigger club or is it a case of a really good player in a poor team...

Turns out he's more than capable to play at this level, Personally he's a lot better than what I thought he was, His performances over the last two games are such a big standard and he's just fit right in.

Put your name forward for scouting fella ;)

2023 wasn’t a bad season!

Yeah I wanted to say 2022/23 without including the start of 23/24, although I think there were signs of the functionality creeping in towards the end of the treble. Obviously the right call given what we won but I think we were starting to lose the verticality towards the end of that season. 2023/24 was very functional but got the job done.

That’s so fucking weird. I’ve got Granada Reports on in background, and they just said “City have gone through winning 5-2 against Juventus with the second goal coming from an own goal by Kalulu”. What a strange way to report the game, lol.

Fair fecks to DAZN

If BBC, ITV or Sky were of any use , they'd have been at this tournament.
Its crazy that England are in the Euro U21 tournament and 2 PL teams are in the CWC and there is not a bit of enthusiasm shown by these channels and we are left with DAZN , C5 , 5ACTION, 4seven and Channel 4 for football coverage of these 2 major footballing events.
Also some games are on TNT box office

Aye, Pep has brought the lad in, and he's gone "have you tried playing a front 3, Pep, one in the middle and two on the wings cutting in" and Pep has absolutely lost it and gone "you're a fucking genius, you were doing this at Liverpool, why didn't I think of this before".

Honestly this CWC might be a good thing to get a fresh squad hitting the ground running. We looked great out there minus Eddie.

Rather reminiscent of an old pre-season friendly against an Italian team. They actually looked undercooked and rather overwhelmed, though much of that was down to our movement and intensity. Only played 270 minutes to date, so the lack of cohesion in the final third is understandable, but if we go deep in this tournament, that will only improve and we’ll hit the ground running when the season starts.
