Two deffo future first teamers...

Vidal & McGivern

Did Vidal come on in the 2nd half? I only saw the 1st.
Agree with McGivern, though. Both him and Ben Mee looked solid and reliable.

And what about the commentating - bizzarre, surreal? I'd love to hear those guys commentating on a Prem game!!

Vidal came on for Ireland I think.

Haha, just read it through and i now realise that it gave Mcgivern and Mee some extra experience, silly me!!!

My concern is not with regards to any of the performances (they're irrelevant during pre-season), but more so to do with some of the players that are being selected. We obviously have some players that are not fit to play, and others that have either only just arrived in SA or are still yet to arrive, but even so, players like Etuhu and Benjani have had just as many minutes, if not more minutes than anyone else. This is just wrong. There is no benefit to playing players that have no future at the club and have a 0% chance of playing a single game this season. We have players like Johnson, Petrov and Bojinov in particular, that are in desperate need of some game time, yet none of them were in the starting line-up last night (is Johnson injured again or something???). He started Caicedo, which is fair enough i guess, but to bring on Benjani over Bojinov is stupidity. At least Benjani did his hamstring again (surprise, surprise), so maybe more players with a future at the club will play from now on. We only have 4 pre-season games left, and there are a ton of senior players that are miles behind in terms of fitness. Also, we need them to all play together now, so that they don't play like strangers against Blackburn. Hopefully, we'll see a proper team from now on. If not, we wont be ready for the new season.
This.

That is the point. Why warms up players that will never get near first team when the season comes? Watching Chelsea, Arsenal, RAGs, Liverpool, and etc's friendly matches., they all putting first team players involved in >90% part of all pre-season games since started, but when look back to see some of our own important players are still having holidays and some still resting on the bench without 1 competitive game in their belts is just a shock preparation for less than a month before the regular season opens!

Mee, McGiven, Caicedo, Garrido, Taylor, Benjani, Etuhu, Logan, ....
I'm just curious what was the point playing these players in the last 3 pre-season matches?

It was Barry. When Javan went to my primary school i remember he used to play upfront and score anything up to 10 goals a match, he was quality :) he didnt do too bad last night either imo

I'm asking myself the same question. These guys will not even hit the bench!

so why use valuable pre-season time on those? when we have a bunch of players who really need to gel and be 100 per cent ready in less than one month!!

scary!!

With regards to team selection: Rsc,Tevez & Bellers are not fully fit. Benjani is african so it makes sense to play him to raise our profile with african support (probably big part of adebayor as well!)

Likes of Petrov, Benjani, Etuhu, Caceido = Shop window IMO

Taylor (If given gets injured we are screwed!), Bridge (Looked good), De Jong, Zab, SWP, Ireland, Barry (Very impressed) = Game time

Youngsters = experience

Personally I think the lads that played all or most last night (Zab, De jong, Etuhu) will feature very little on saturday as it's just about match fitness for the whole squad at the moment not competition for places. Would like to see Johnson get some more time and Boj before the season starts as they might find it difficult once it does

On the whole a solid and professional performance - the midfield looked balanced and more secure on the left with barry in the team, hampered by the 'same old problems' missed a couple of sitters (Ireland, Etuhu) and the defenders with the exception of bridge were a little out of position at times, plus the one good corner they put in they had a man free in acres of space who spooned it! Can't read too much into these games though most of the players we won't see too much of again!

Its highly likely that as well as having these games the players are going through some pretty hard fitness work in training. We played jonno, boj, bellamy and petrov in the game on saturday and two games in 4 games is probably quite a risk to take considering the lack of fitness and injuries these players have had. Ease them in i say, imagine if they picked up another injury in this game. would people be saying they had been unneccesarily risked?
