Kalidou Koulibaly

After last night's game it's clear that Laporte needs a strong, athletic presence next to him against the very best.

Garcia (and THB) is the future but he's still got a fair way to go before being 1st choice IMO.

Garcia was brilliant, way beyond his years last night, considering the talent he was up against

He grew into the game but was lucky in that 1st 20 mins. Mane was in behind him at least twice had he received better passes.

There was also the moment where Mane went past him too easily and he looked to feign injury.

Maybe Walker left him slightly exposed but he'll have problems against physical players.

Ithe would be a huge signing if we can get Koulibaly as an actual replacement for Vinny

Garcia learning under him and Laporte, just like foden has with silva is a no brainer

No, Walker let Mane go at least 2/3 times. In no way could Garcia be considered culpable in any of those situations, not once. Garcia did let a ball go in the second half which Mane should have scored from if he got his feet sorted but seemed to be as shocked as everyone else (including Neville on commentary) that Garcia just left it.

Walker left him exposed in those instances, more than Garcia being caught out. There was a tangle of legs when Garcia went down, which he thought deserved a free kick. Would have been nice to see him get up and try to get back though. Against one of, if not the toughest high pressing team in the world right now he was pretty damn good. Didn't put his teammates in trouble with poor passes, which Laporte and Rodri were also guilty of, before I even get to Gundogan who was pretty damn awful for most of the first half with his passing.

There will not be many teams we play that can give us as tough a game as Liverpool, and Garcia didn't look out of place at all. Buy Koulibaly and with Garcia and Fernandinho as back up we're in great shape.

I'd also say that Gundogan/Rodri (particularly Gundogan) were awful at times in the first half. Gundogan gave the ball away under the press time and time again which is what Liverpool thrive on. Steal it high up the pitch, run at the centre backs and slip in one of the forwards to score. We got lucky at points, but there were times both centre backs were left open due to mistakes from others more than their own positioning or fault.

I disagree. When defending as part of a unit you regularly have to adapt and change markers fluidly in your zone. As said, everyone knows where Mane will run and the centre half needs to ensure he's positioned well enough to prevent it.

Garcia has a similar turn of pace to Otamendi and against Liverpool, and many other elite teams, we need more speed in that position.

Garcia will be a good asset against 90% of other teams.

Hopefully we can get this sorted early instead of a summer long transfer saga. He’s exactly what we need with Garcia being third choice.
