Kalidou Koulibaly

It doesn't always no, but it eliminates a bit more risk. Potential is such a hard thing to buy players on. We all said Sane had more potential than Sterling at first but it hasn't turned out that way yet.

I thought Stones had all the raw attributes but needed to learn to read the game a bit better, improve his decision making and get physically stronger. All things with experience I thought he would achieve.

My main issue with him is whilst he isn't quick, he hasn't made himself strong enough either. You can be a top class CB without pace if you read the game and are physically strong. When Stones does read things and gets into position to defend he is often overpowered physically.
So with that in mind, do you believe our transfer strategy is too risky? Should we shake it up a bit and start going for older players in general as they're less risky?

We are lucky to have a great young cb in Laporte and i think Ake is a wonderful buy. Dinho did not work and i have to say poor management/planning when we knew we were losing Vinnie. Would be great to have this lad as defence is an area where experience counts! Just dealing with this gangster wannabe makes me want to puke. Put an offer down with a time limit and walk if necessary.

Experience doesn't always mean better, compare Sterling (20) and Pedro (28) as both players signed for the respective clubs in 15/16 season. Pedro was older and more experienced coming from Barcelona, however over the last 5 years it's Sterling who has been not only the better player, more consistent and by such a margin that it's unquestionable in terms of statistics and to the every day football fan. He's been first choice for us, Pedro however has been in and out of the Chelsea team over that same period.

Son (23) at Spurs signed for near enough the same fee as Pedro, again has been the better player over the last 5 years.

No, experience absolutely doesn't mean better, but that's not the point I'm making at all.

If our central defenders, were performing with the kind of consistency we would want to see, then we would be looking at younger centre backs, to take a punt on becoming top players, whilst playing amongst our established cbs who ease them into the squad. And we signed such a player, with Ake, in a way.

But we haven't got any 'established' cbs, none of them are currently any good, even Laporte is all over the place. We tried sticking a kid in there & it's a disaster. Due to the form of others, our best cb, is an ageing midfield player.

So we are actually looking at a player who we hope will help our defenders, get their game back.

If we get him & it works, then we will be back to normal, looking at 23 year old cbs.

If we can't get him, we'd better score a shitload more goals.

ADl is still waiting for Rags possibly to give Maguire level money have no doubts. Don't think PSG are in for him given their links to other player

Koulibaly imo kills two birds with one stone. Buy Koulibaly we don't need a defensive midfielder. In fact Koulibaly is probably the last piece in the jigsaw. If we sign him I'd start to think about a centre forward who can convert crosses.

It would be a good summer if he comes. After that we can see what the market can show us and make judgments on value and player type. There’s no glaring need anywhere else (yes I include lb and cdm in that) IMO. I’m glad city went for Werner as I was genuinely baffled why we didn’t. I’m glad we didn’t offer him false hope and guarantee him the earth when we couldn’t too. Will be interesting how Frank fares with all that talent. It’s hard to keep all them players happy.

So you think Fernandinho is a better centre back than Laporte wow
