100% correct. Most successful teams over the years have had their own versions of Akes, or Phillips. There is nothing wrong with having these types of players in the squad, playing 10-15 games a season. It’s just that most teams didn’t/don’t pay a combined £100m for them.

That hasn't been the case in the premier League. Chelsea and the scousers have several big money signings sat on the bench every season.

If it was easy to just sign players for 10m that have the right ability then everyone would do it.

I'm not judging him based on yesterday's game at all. Like you said a lot of players had a disasterclass. But it just reinforces me that he's not worth anywhere near the prices quoted which is an opinion I held strongly prior.

For some people on this thread, yes we should put Walker and Stones on transfer list based on last england games.

If Walker and Stones in Philips place they will be heavily criticized and will not be let to our squad ever.

I agree,he isnt worth the prices quoted,very few players are.

But let's see if he turns up here,and secondly lets wait and see what we actually pay when he does (not that it matters)

Exactly, all I'm saying. Nothing too outrageous so far. From various chancers on twitter he seems to have more right than wrong. Don't mind it, but as with every transfer we take it with a pinch of salt anyway, even if it's a highly reputable journo (who also get things wrong).

Some of the comments are laughable and way over the top. I think everyone is in agreement he had a poor game last night, but the club have done their research and decided that Phillips is the no 1 target for the dm position.
