Kalvin Phillips

I just can’t see what’s fundamentally changed that has made him suddenly decide that he doesn’t want to stay and fight and is happy to be sent on a last minute loan.

We've just signed his replacement and it's been made clear to him that he can't gain the manager's trust?

He can sit on the sidelines for the next six months or he can move on with some dignity.

That would depend on who the interested clubs are, if it’s Liverpool he’s gone, if it’s Everton Fulham etc, then he’s got a decision to make, didn’t he get an England call up playing for Leeds in the championship? Maybe he fancies going home (we’d have to pay 2/3 of his wages)
and getting them promoted

That’s been pretty much the case since the window opened though, that’s my point. I’m sure he’s been well aware of the type of player we’ve been looking at and he’s definitely well aware of his place in the pecking order.
I’m not sure moving with dignity is high on his priority list.
End of day I’m just thinking aloud here as I’ve no fucking clue of his or the clubs thinking.

I feel that Pep was more annoyed about him coming back not fit after England duty than he let on......

If you make a mistake with Pep it doesnt look like there is a way back unless you ahve a lot of credit in the bank.....and rightfully so. Pep wants absolute professionals...David Silva, Kompany, Rodri, Bernardo etc etc -even walker felt his anger with the incident in the bar last year...think he was "dropped" after it - but he had a lot of credit in the bank so to speak.

Other than that he clearly doesnt have the quality to make it.....which isnt a great surprise either

Me too, but I read it as clubs asking for him to be loaned, not Phillips agreeing to such
That’s my point, I’d expect him to stay after making it clear for months that’s his intention only to go in the last couple of hours of the window.
Seems a bit rushed. I don’t think he’d be happy to go on loan btw, that was the wrong expression.

It's possible that he had such self belief that he thought he'd sit it out until a replacement turned up. One week ago we weren't set to sign anyone in his position and missed two targets.

I don't see him as the sort that's happy to sit out the rest of the career when he has the opportunity of a payoff or a loan.

I think it would be a surprise if he left this window too
