Kalvin Phillips

Right back needs pace above all else. That is why imo Nunes is grand and Lewis is not.

Who else has pace besides besides Khusonov? And I'd prefer him at CB where more pace is needed.
Nunes is not grand . He is not good enough. If he was he wouldn’t be making error after error and wouldn’t be getting such a hard time on this forum.

This transfer should be used as an exemplar in all sports management courses.
Total disaster in every aspect apart from Kalvins Bank balance.
I really wanted him to succeed at City. Convinced myself he would.
A huge part of last seasons problems stemmed from trying to fix this fuck up. It's one of the all time terrible transfers of any club.

Always seemed an odd signing because what he was good at didn’t involve what we needed him to be good at. Clearly his city career is likely over but giving him a chance in training to play RB and see how he does seems reasonable. He looked to be reasonably mobile and have solid defensive instincts, and be able to knock a simple pass. With the greatest of respect to any fullbacks out there, that would appear to fit the bill. And pep even got a tune out of Delphi and zincenko in that role despite their limitations

Sounds about right.

I could definitely see us doing that over buying an actual right back

Kalvin got injured at the wrong time, he would probably have been loaned to Leeds with an obligation to buy. We need to hold onto O’Reilly, although maybe a half-season loand would give him more game time once Ait Nouri gets established

I was just thinking is he pound for pound our worst ever signing?

The fact his city highlight was when we let him take a penalty in some dead rubber CL game like he was some make a wish kid.

On paper he should've been a decent signing - played for a manager Pep rates, played for England, good engine, reasonable passing and could put the boot in when required. He wasn't anywhere near as good as Fernandinho but should've been competent enough against any team outside the top 6 or so.

However, he looks to me like one of those players who got the contract but didn't fancy the work. He didn't want to learn, progress etc and he's - rightfully - been frozen out. He isn't up for it at City and I'd be surprised if he even plays for another team anywhere near the PL to be honest. I think he will end up in Saudi. He's a dreadful professional and I can't wait to be rid of the fucker to be honest.

I remember years ago that pisscan Fergie saying you need to look in the whites of a mans eyes to see if he's got the will to win. I reckon you'd see it clear as day in Kompany, Zaba, Fern, Aguero, Tevez, Silva, KdB, Walker etc etc. What did we see in Phillips eyes?

He's just like the Dele Alli/etc player - get famous and somehow manages to get huge life-changing contracts and do fuck all once they've got it.

He will never play for us again, or any other team with a competent manager. He's a lazy, useless, money-grabbing, spineless scumbag.

Wow, there’s some strong feelings on here!

KP’s problems have been threefold, IMHO.

1) He was bought to play a literally pivotal role at City, and was not that type of player. He’s more De Jong than Barry, more Fernando than Rodri.

2) He has had injuries that have scuppered any chance to even get a run on the bench and in training, let alone of the field.

3) I honestly don’t think he has the smarts to understand the where’s and what’s of Pep’s system and his part within it…both with and without the ball!

When he’s fit, we should try him anywhere and everywhere, but it feels like his time has passed and his journey at City is over. That said, I wouldn’t expect him to take any part in the season, sadly.
