Kalvin Phillips

He’s living the dream, well my dream at least. Pockets 150k a week and gets to have a run out every 600 days. Fair play to him, can’t moan at him for doing what’s best for him and his family, I wouldn’t leave until my contract was paid up.

And somebody in the club hierarchy negotiated both the fee/length of contract and salary at the time of his signing.

Whether he has done everything he personally could do to perform to the levels expected are another subject, which is where fan comments come in, together with their own criticisms/accusations/opinions.

In his place, most of us would have been thrilled to sign up for the deal on offer.

I know people have a right to say he's out of his depth and to be fair he has looked out of his depth at times, however a decent player would fit into this side (OK he may not stand out as excellent but he would be able to hide in it) I don't think all this is about ability he obviously has some.

We have him for a few years he seems like a nice lad let's see if we can squeeze a few games out of him.

It does look like he isn't going anywhere so the two choices seem to be pay him up or find something constructive he can be doing (I don't mean brewing the tea etc etc).

Yup. just make the most out of the situation, he does genuinely seem like a nice lad as well.

Not quite sure what some people were expecting him to have done in 10 minutes, at the end of essentially a dead game at that point, when he hasn’t played a competitive game in months.

I know he’s been a bit of a disaster signing but at his best, he was on a similar level to a few players in our current squad. We are going to be paying him, so might as well try to get him back on track, nothing to lose really.

If some of the problem is confidence, then getting him on the pitch for a few minutes in a competitive game where there was low risk/low pressure may have done him the world of good.

Granted he's not played for a long while but anytime he comes on, he looks dreadful. He made the game look hard last night when he came on. The Academy lads looked better than he did, an experienced international.

I don't know what's up with him but it's getting harder to think of a scenario where he can contribute anything.

It's better for everyone if we can move him on. He's nowhere near good enough, not interested and needs to play somewhere else or sit on someone elses bench.

What the fuck has him seemingly being a nice lad got to do with anything ? Would be much better if he was a complete knob and actually contributed something to the club. He's useless, shouldn't have been given a second the other night and needs to be gotten rid of asap. Ranting here because for some reason I don't have enough privileges to post in the player performance thread whatever that means. Whenever he does leave you'll find out exactly what he thinks of Pep and City and I can guarantee he'll blame all and sundry for his career stalling.

This reminds me of Mangala playing a couple games that season under Pep when we couldn’t get him a move away.

However much we (and more importantly Pep) feel that he is not good enough for a regular place in the match day squad. I'm still glad that he seems to be part of the training squad, that on Wednesday he got an opportunity to play and that Pep as his manager knows what is going on in his life. Compare with the Bomb Squad at Chelsea where Maresca has them training when others are not around and has admitted that he hasn't even met with/spoken with them in months. It feels a very cruel way to treat anyone, despite the money they continue to pocket.

the thing is, we can move him easily to NYFC, but the issue is that we could not get our money back

I actually thought it was a bit cruel to play him last night, he was obviously going to be shit and it’s a pointless sideshow.

Mind you the fact he’s even still in our squad is at least partly down to him. Surely some Championship clubs would’ve enquired about a loan. If he really wanted to reboot his career he could take a pay cut, swallow his pride and play some football.

Also at this point surely City have got nothing to lose by agreeing to tear up his contract and letting the guy go on a free to a non-premier league club?
He is going to be shit whenever we play him...because he's shit.
May as well play him for a few minutes in a game that's already won to give someone a rest

He’ll go out on loan in January, probably championship at this rate and we’ll be paying the majority of his wages.

It’ll be like this until his contract is up, maybe in his final year we can pay him off or something.
