Kamala Harris

Bollocks. If you think it's ok voting for someone heavily involved in the mass murder and displacement of Palestinians, that's your prerogative.
A) What’s to say she won’t help change US policy?

B) Not picking a side helps Trump, who quite clearly will make things worse.

So your cowardice makes the issue you claim to hold as your key one worse.

Well done.

I'd say your candidate has been extremely cowardly in not persuading Biden to rein Netanyahu in. She's fearful of losing votes.

And if she wins, and isn’t fearful, what then? What makes you think any VP has ever been able to successfully bend the ear of any President on FP issues?

I wish those who kept bringing up Palestine would call it what it is — you’re afraid to say you support her for fear of being attacked by your friends on the left, a different kind of left than here.

As one who’s lived here my whole life I can tell you the average American’s support for Israel is teetering, certainly compared to what it once was, and I’ve always been conflicted.

I wish those who kept bringing up Palestine would call it what it is — you’re afraid to say you support her for fear of being attacked by either your right wing friends if that’s your bent, or your leftist friends if that is. I can tell you being here my whole life that Palestine is convenience. Were it not that, it’d be something else.

Fair enough. Look, were I an American I guess I'd support her like I did Starmer. The least worst option.

The war is only dragging on so long because Netanyahu is hoping for a Trump victory so he can get the green light to do whatever he wants. If Harris wins it will be over because she will no longer have to adjust her policy not to lose votes from certain areas of the electorate. It’s been a balancing act so far but with a win she can put real pressure on Netanyahu to negotiate a ceasefire and settlement. A Harris win will be the best outcome for both the Palestinians and the remaining hostages in Gaza.

As an outsider, what is it that many Americans like about Trump? I just see him as a complete loon but clearly something about him appeals.

Also, what are the main concerns of Americans in general at the moment in your country? I see a lot of news reports about immigration. Is that a big problem and getting bigger?

I think if she wins you’ll almost certainly see pretty much straight away (and before she’s sworn in) a simultaneous much tougher line on Israel and a bolstering of support for Ukraine.

It’s a long answer which I’ve offered before but don’t have time to now — it involves perceived and real wealth and opportunity inequality, grievance holding, racism, social media, misinformation, demagoguery, stupidity, cognitive dissonance, the age-old ballet between “sophisticated” educated urbanites and rural bumpkins, resentment, revenge and billions of dollars.

The primary issue is that the world has passed by some Americans — economically, socially and morally — and in their hopelessness with ever catching up, they are looking to hurt everyone who they perceive has been elevated or elevated themselves above them.
