'Karenism' Explained...

Gammon is easy, it’s to highlight the skin colour of angry white men.

Karen is a stereotypical name for a middle aged white woman and therefore was just chosen to represent someone of that description kicking off at a manager or complaining about service.

Suddenly they’re now describing racist white women as that too, which I think is a bit unfair.
Fair point re gammon. Still not sure why "they" picked Karen, as opposed to Mary, or Betty, or, or, or. There's dozens of middle aged white womens' names that could have been picked. I'm not arguing with you, by the way. Just wondering out loud. Take no notice, most on here don't.

:-(

Karen is typically 30-50 year old name I guess (?)

I don’t think there was much thought into it, it’s one of those things that just catches fire online.

Similarly to City having no history and empty seats. Only took a handful of Rags to say it on Twitter before everyone was.

Fair points.

I always find it intriguing how you can age a person from their given name.
You could bet your bottom dollar any Kylie is in her 30s now.

I am 64 years old and we had a least half a dozen girls named Karen in our school year (1967-1972).
I think that you are about 10 years out on your age estimate.

got to agree I am 61 plenty of karens about in my childhood, and even a couple oyears older
thinking back, one of them was a dream

Nowt new. Try being a Sharon in the late 80s/ early 90s. Especially after Birds of a Feather :-(
My mum named me after her Jewish friend who delivered a little girl a few weeks before I arrived.

Australian Karen, she lives in a very rich suburb, Brighton. They usually wear North Face puffer jackets in winter.
She drove a few miles into the city (probably in her X3) she's bored walking round Brighton.
State premier had a go at her. Haha

There were no new registrions of the name Nigel in 2016. I can see something similar happening with Karen.

Didn't it originate from the reddit called sometihng like my wife karen, where a very disgruntled husbang used to post mini stories about his soon to be ex wife.

The other possible origin was from the 80s as a description a middle-aged white woman asking to speak to the manager, who happens to be as entitled as she is ignorant and in the most early uses racist or prejudice.

Anyway it has morphrd and been co-opted by anyone as a geberal insult and diluted it's worth and is just more shite from America that seeps into our society through the internet and social media, people using Karen over here are pretty sad in my opinion same as those that use snowflake, gammon I excuse as it was coined here for a specific type of little englander attitude.
