Katie Hopkins suspended from Twitter

I’ve probably said this before, but I don’t think she believes even a fraction of what she says. She seems to just say the most inflammatory nonsense because it raises her profile. I recall her saying some horrible things about autistic people, despite her own daughter being autistic. I think she’d convert to Islam and waive the communist flag if she thought it would benefit her career.

I watched her address the Oxford or Cambridge union some time ago and she was questioned on this. What was striking is that she didn’t really deny the accusation. Her response was along the lines of why it didn’t matter, because a large group of people agreed with what she was saying.

The problem with these private companies, such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube etc. banning people whatever their politics or views is that they then have a lot of power when it comes to elections and democracy, I think they already have too much.

The influence of social media on elections is still underrated, despite it being well known.

Cummings knew this in 2016 and spent most of his budget on social media.

If Twitter or Facebook has a particular view, they have the power to ban those they dislike and influence democracy.

Don’t get me wrong, Hopkins is abhorrent and I am not defending her views at all, especially her “final solution” comment, which she knew full well what that meant, I just feel that there’s nothing restraining Twitter doing this with more moderate people.

Pornography on Twitter comes with a content warning, when you go to click on it, I feel they should do the same with those with more of the extreme views.

I don’t see it as just the same as a newspaper having a certain view, this is the main way people communicate now and the power and access of it is frightening.

I feel those who are moaning about the free speech point are missing the point a little, it’s not about defending that witch Hopkins, it’s about our main method of political communication being biased and authoritarian.

I agree, you make good points.
However, who decides what extreme is? I guess that falls into your point about them banning who they disagree with.
I feel a way to have more transparency is for these medias to tell us exactly what these people have done to be banned and which of the sites rules they've fell short of. This way if a left winger gets banned for something and twitter show us why, if you were so inclined you could say ‘well what about this right winger? they’ve done’the same? Or visa versa.

Also, what I don’t get about hopkins is she is clearly a WUM. Her whole attitude is just a caricature of a villain. It doesn’t deserve to be argued against because fundamentally she doesn’t speak with intelligence or use clever arguments to sway people over to her way of thinking. So anyone who is inspired by her didn’t need much swaying in the first place.
Ultimately she wants your hate, she wants those articles saying ‘YOU won’t BELIEVE what Hopkins just said!’
Ignoring her would hurt her more than her being banned. Way more
 
I do hope KKKatie finds peace in her new obscurity. I hear its lovely this time of year. There are so many states of mind to enjoy there. Irrelevant Cove, The Walk of No Return is a must. Ignored and Forgotren Wood, full of sounds so haunting you disappear in them. Old Gammon Gorge, where Gammons go to die. Echo Chamber Ridge, were you hear your own thoughts that no one else will ever endure. And my personal.favourite, The Hateful Cemetary, where cunts are buried without even a small burning cross to say they were even here.

All to look forward to. And I will.
