Having read the centre half transfer threads, I see that no one has mentioned this.
Thoughts on keeping Martin and Vinny as first choice and grabbing a cheaper option to be back up with Nastassic therefore spending the 49 mil on other players

No, although I would keep De Mic as first choice for the first 6 games and ease the new defender in. We can't afford to be as poor at the start of next season as we were last year.

I would.

20-35 mil on unproven centre-backs(in England) is madness as far as I'm concerned especially when we have Demi playing well and Nastasic and Rekik in the squad.

I play Demi, see if the two above can get used to the system and see where we are in January

MDM has done enough to convince me that he's more than good enough to be in a regular rotation system with Vinny + a top signing.

He won't let anybody down - A quality footballer.

for sure i mean when you see those available this summer and price tag just keep him (competition with Nastasic) but a back up needed maybe Rekik, Sagna or someone else

and maybe someone good could be available for next January or summer

add to that is case if play and Argentina go far in the world ...

personally i fail to see what is genius in Mangala (at moment) every time i watch him i try to convince my self he is good offer nothing special quiet the same as Demichelis

I think MDM's well established now and has another season in him at top level. Happy to have him alongside Vinny as first choice pairing.

We need to resolve the longer term situation, though, so either need to get Nastasic back on track or bring in top class cover to compete with MDM and subsequently replace him.

I wouldn't favour an el cheapo buy. Either rehabilitate Nastasic or buy a quality CD and move him on.

I wouldn't have any issues with it but you have to consider that the man that sees the players every day has surely asked Txiki to go out there and get us Mangala or Benatia etc.

There is a reason for this.

It would be a shame if Nastasic doesn't make it with us, I just love watching the lad play and I really thought a Nastasic-Kompany partnership was the future!

mdm was always a stop gap solution , he excelled in the last 3 months of the season , but to ask a 34 year old to play to this standard for 9 months of a competitive premiership is unrealistic , we need a top class centre back , if we have to spend £30m for a world class defender , it will be small change because it will guarantee another premiership , our squad is that good. Nastasic is still only showing potential , but he could learn a lot from a veteran like MDM , as for Boyota he has only been given a contract to meet the club trained quota , the same reason the club will persevere with Rekik , who looks a good player in the dutch league , just like Guidetti did , which also proves the dutch league is not a great yardstick to judge a player.
