Kelechi Iheanacho

IHEANACHO WILL BATTLE AGUERO FOR MAN CITY SHIRT

Monday May 11, 2015. 17:44
AfricanFootball.com has specially learnt that Nigeria starlet Kelechi Iheanacho has turned down a chance to go on loan from top EPL side Manchester City, preferring instead to battle the likes of Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko for a first-team place at City.

An inside source at City told AfricanFootball.com Iheanacho, who has been granted his work permit in the United Kingdom, was given the option to go on loan so as to play regular first-team football and then return to the club a lot more experienced.

But he turned down this chance, insisting he would rather stay back at the club and fight to make the first team.

“He refused to go on loan. He and his representatives have told City he would rather battle the likes of Aguero and Dzeko for a place in the first team,” revealed the source.

“His compatriot, Chidiebere Nwakali, opted for a loan move away to Malaga because his management team believe he has to gain experience outside the club before he could really challenge for a place in the City main team.”

The 18-year-old Iheanacho, who is bound for this month’s FIFA U20 World Cup with Nigeria, was a big hit during City’s pre-season tour of the USA in the summer.

He has fully recovered from injuries to score goals for Manchester City U19 and U21 teams recently.

I love his confidence, gotta have that as a striker. Why would we send him on loan? If he can't make the first squad none of these others have any hope, he's miles ahead of most of them.

Love him too but it's important to get a lot of game time at his age, wouldn't mind loaning him out to a lower bpl team where he'd be their first or at least second choice striker. Hope we follow chelsea's path when they decided to loan out Lukaku. Wouldn't want him outside of the prem though, there is no other league like it and he's good enough to start playing serious starter minutes in it. Imagine him learning the league in a mid table team like swansea or southampton where he can play along real talent and learn the prem and be ready to be a stud for us at 19... No need to rush him into our first team when he has more than a decade left in him.

I can see this end up as Pogba II .
If that was supposed to have been funny you'd have been well advised to have put a smiley at the end of it. If you were serious then it's an idiotic statement since he only signed last November.

The potential is obvious to us, i think its up to the club to advertise him via bits of game time if we want to get him a PL loan. Getting managers and clubs reading about us playing him seems to be the only way they tend to take notice. He could certainly force his way to a starting role at some of the lower half teams, which at 18 and not a huge lumbering beast is really something.

Great news!!!!
