Kelechi Iheanacho

Not sure how your homegrown rules work. Wouldn't he count if he's just on loan?

Will he get a work permit for here as a special talent or whatever the real phrase is?

As long as he's City's player, i.e. we hold his permanent registration, then he doesn't have to physically be in the country or involved in City's training to build up his time as a "Home Grown" player. If he did then that would hamper a great deal of loan opportunities for players and would result in players stagnating in reserve sides just so they could reach the magic 3 year mark and be a club trained home grown player.

Discussed in the EDS forum too, can't find any source, but saw this today:
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2014/08/08/4677159/celtics-lucky-reprieve-arsenals-miyaichi-gaffe-and-footballs?ICID=OP" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editor ... ls?ICID=OP</a>

"In a rather farcial episode in the Champions League last 16 last season, Arsenal had to withdraw young winger Ryo Miyaichi from their matchday squad to face Bayern Munich after it emerged that the Japan international was ineligible.

As the 21-year-old had been at the club for over three years and was the right age, the Gunners had assumed that he did not have to be registered. But, due to his loan spells at Feyenoord, Wigan and Bolton, he had not spent the necessary time at the club to qualify. As a result, Arsene Wenger had only six of his seven substitutes at his disposal due to the clerical error."

Iheanacho would be 18 when he signs for us, so I would assume that he would need to spend all his time at City till he is 21 if we want him to be HG CT, if the above is correct.

Surely to "sign" for us as an over 18 he'll need a work permit, even to play for the EDS, or are there special rules to allow for young talent to be nurtured ?

should have written when/if he gets a work permit...it was more in the sense that hopefully he'll get a work permit when he turns 18

It was genuine question, not necessarily aimed at just you, as I don't keep up with all the ins and outs of work permits. Hopefully a bluemoon expert can give us a brief summary of rules on players around 17/18 from outside the EU, I'm genuinely interested, because I can see this being a route to so called "home grown" talent, if we can't find any english/british youngsters good enough.

Here is the actual language from UEFA:

18.10 A “club-trained player” is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which he turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which he turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant national championship) or of 36 months.

18.11 An “association-trained player” is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with a club or with other clubs affiliated to the same association as that of his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or of 36 months.

If he's officially signed when he turns 18 and remains a player that City has the registration rights for until he is 21, he will be considered club-trained regardless of whether or not he has been at the club for the entire period. I am unsure of Miyaichi's full situation, but it may have been related to the List A vs List B where there are some very tricky permutations.

Really hope he gets the work permit. And imo a move to the mls would be ideal for him. Not the best of leagues tho but he gets to be coached the city way.

The MLS is getting better and Jason Kreis has a reputation of playing good football.

I think a lot of young players around the age of 18 would jump at the chance of playing in America as their first experience of first team football.

I think he will play regularly at NYCFC as well.

Thanks for posting that, though it just creates further questions for me.

Can we sign him regardless of the work permit situation, and loan him to somewhere he doesn't need one ? I assume work permit is only required to play in England ?
Does being loaned out still count as being "registered" with City ?

What is the lads current club ? I'm sure its in here somewhere, but don't want to go back 40 pages to look.

He'd also learn a lot playing alongside Lampard and especially Villa. Going to be a great experience.

He's 100% signed, he was spotted by someone called Philip Brogan who scouts players in Africa, and he was the one who originally recommended him to us, everything is in hand and we have done as much as we can at our end but the work permit can only be granted once he turns 18 - Hopefully there should be no issues with it being granted.
